THE BIRTHDAY RABCK EXPERIMENT ! *** Woo Hoo!! 570 participants to this day ***
The purpose of this experiment is to set up teams of two BookCrossers who will send each other a book for their respective birthdays (hence the RABCK), the book being chosen from the other participant's wish list.
Here's what you have to do if you want to become a member of the Birthday RABCK Experiment (BRE): 1) Make sure you have a wish list set up with Cliff1976 (if you don’t, click here to create one). 2) Send me a PM with your personal details: - your birthday (day + name of month) - your address - your shipping preferences (where you are willing to ship to)
I will do my best to team people up according to their location & shipping preferences and will then let participants know by PM who their Birthday RABCK Buddy (BRB) is.
[After you & your birthday buddy have exchanged books (after both birthdays have come and gone) you can either decide to get "reshuffled" so as to get a new birthday buddy for the following year, keep the same partner for ever & ever & ever or you can just say goodbye and go RABCK elsewhere:) If you decide to reshuffle, just PM me to let me know!]
Just a quick note to say that CosmicGirl's present was mailed last week, and although it didn't get there by her birthday it arrived today so it wasn't that bad :-) I'm sorry for the delay, but I had a hard time finding the book I wanted - Saramago's "All names", one of my favourites by this Portuguese author. Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday, CosmicGirl, and I'm glad you liked the surprise :-))
I am sending lady-sybil 5 books for her birthday July 7th. I won't be in town because I will be on a ship in alaska with my mom for a week :D These are the books are mailed to her: SONG OF SUSANNAH STEPHEN KING DUDE WHERE'S MY COUNTRY BY MICHAEL MOORE THE WOLVES IN THE WALLS BY NEIL GAIMAN HARLEQUIN VALENTINE BY NEIL GAIMAN A GENTLE MADNESS: BIBLIOPHILES, BIBLOMANES, AND THE ETERNAL PASSION FOR BOOKS BY NICHOLAS BASBANES
I joined the b-day rabck experient deliberately after my special day. I didn't expect a present ;-) that soon! You really caught me off guard! I immediately started reading it, carrying it with me all the time, you never know if you get a chance when you get stuck somewhere!
Despite the fact that my birthday had already passed since I joined this experience, my buddy decided it didn't matter and I should get a present anyway. So today I got a surprise on my mail today (they actually left it on my mailbox, which is a miracle in itself, as my postal office hardly ever does that). A book from butterfly-noir, a very nice surprise (though she did tell me she was sending a book, she did not tell me which) and I'm looking forward to reading it... I'll make the time between my loans and bookrings, I promise. :)
Lisagt sent me TWO books and really made my birthday shine. Can you believe she sent me "Almost French" not knowing that I leave for France in two days?! Then, worried that I was on a Bookring for said book, and not realising it was a *stalled* Ring, she sent another similar-type book, "On Persephone's Island", just to be sure I wasn't disappointed.
Little did she know how very much I wanted "Almost French"! It will be coming with me to France, where it will either be wild-released or sent to the next BXer in the stalled Ring. "On Persephone's Island" will wait on the top of my TBR pile for my return.
Thanks so very much to Lisagt and to Chich for making this all happen!
I was a bit late mailing out the package to rainbow3, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that her birthday RABCK arrives within a reasonable amount of time. I think I'm more excited about this than the birthday gal! LOL Here's wishing I could follow this package to Scotland and deliver it to rainbow3 personally. :)
Came home today to find my wonderful Birthday rabck from CanPou, PS I love you by Cecilia Ahern. I was so delighted to get this. My kids tried to persuade me to hold off opening it until Monday, but I was too excited I had to open it.
Thank you so much CanPou, Thank you so very much to Chich for going to the trouble to organise this
My book was a little late in arriving, but it's still my birthday month so what does it matter?! :) I just received The Time Traveller's Wife from bookmanu in Portugal. I've been looking forward to reading it for awhile so I think I'll be moving it to the top of my TBR. :)
I received my bday book today from Brookler -thanx- a little late but as TinkEsq said "it's still my bday month so what does it matter!" Exactly! The book is 'Fall on your knees' by Ann-Marie MacDonald and came with a lovely bookmark so THANX to Brookler and chich for starting this lovely little adventure for me...
I sent my birthday RABCK today to butterfly-noir. Here's hoping it arrives safely and on time. A birthday card was also sent, so let's see if they both arrive at the same time. Hope you like the book, butterfly, and have a great and special B-day. Hugs.
I received a package from Ireland in the mail on Aug 10th! And I debated with myself about opening it...but I couldn't resist. There inside was a card and a pretty present wrapped in festive paper and a note telling me that I couldn't open it until AUG 11th! Guess what the first thing I did when I got out of bed on the morning of my birthday was???
Mirp sent me a book off my wish list 'The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud' and a very appropiate refrigerator magnet that says "When I married Mr. Right I didn't know his first name was Always"!! I certainly started my birthday with a big smile!!! Thanks, Mirp!!!!!
sent a little package off to squirrel818 on saturday...one book from her wish list (i won't say which cuz it could spoil the surprise), a tiny goodie bag and a surprise 2nd book. she should also be seeing something come her way from our own BC supply store (OID40844) in time for her big day thursday...Happy Impending Birthday squirrel818!
I've really enjoyed chatting with and getting to know T02S03B11D20. I mailed out her birthday present yesterday and although it may not arrive in time (it's so hard to get the timing of this right!), hopefully she'll be surprised! Don't forget to wish her a happy birthday this Saturday (Aug 27) :)
Thanks for putting this together, chich - it's a lot of fun!
I got my Birthday RABCK today from Dancing-dog. I know I should have waited until Saturday to open them but....I didn't! I was too curious! Thank you Dancing-dog for the two books from my list: Gravity by Tess Gerritsen and Bubbles a Broad by Sarah Stroymeyer. Also, thanks for the bookmark...you know that will get alot of use!
Today I sent out some books for Dancing-dog's birthday. BUT...I forgot to enclose a card, so I will have to use this entry to say that I hope she has a great birthday! I was only able to find one thing off her wish list, so I hope you also enjoy the other things I sent!
I received my Birthday RABCK from Etherea. She sent me Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. Along with 2 bookmarks, a bookcrossing pin and a birthday card. The book is from my wishlist. Thanks Etherea for everything, I can't wait to read this book!
Sending "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman to bookmanu in Portugal for his October birthday. I love this book and was really happy to see it on his wishlist! Not sure how long it takes for packages from the US to get to Portugal, so I figured I would give it about three weeks.
Woo-hoo!! Some books arrived today from T02S03B11D20 - one on my wishlist that I've wanted for a long time, one that looks really good and a little "sneak preview" book - these are great! Thanks T02S03B11D20 for helping make my birthday a happy one :-D

Just a quick note to say that I've received CosmicGirl's b-day present a few weeks ago before I went on vacation: it was "Just between us", by Cathy Kelly, a book that was on my wish list. Thanks so much, it was great :-)

Oh my god!!! I received my package today!!! I couldn't wait until monday; I opened the parcel as soon I received it. It was so heavy... When I opened it I couldn't believe it. One book (undomestic goddess by Sophie Kinsella), 1 birthday card, 1 postcard, 1 bookmark and lots of candys (more than a kilo I'm sure).
Thank you thank you thank you RlyLv2Rd. And thank you chich for this fantastic idea.
Mailing out Suebo's package on Friday. Her birthday is on Tuesday so it should get there in time! Sending her two books from her wishlist. Didn't register them with BC though, I'll leave that up to her! Enjoy!!!
Thanks to PRCS! I received my Birthday gift about 2 weeks ago, but was strictly forbidden from opening it until today. And I actually made it! I came really close to opening it last night, because who would've known? Hehe.
More than I expected! Thanks PRCS. I received Lady Chatterly's Lover by DH Lawrence which has been on my list for a while to read, and Kiss the Girls by James Patterson, which although I've read many of his others I've never gotten around to reading this one. And a third book! Communion by Whitley Strieber, which sounds fascinating. AND a little book for notes, and other items to help in bookcrossing, along with a sweet card and drawing from her son. Very Exciting!! And a great birthday :)
Well, I managed to get Mozette's books out to her on her birthday. I couldn't do it before as I was waiting for a book that was on her wishlist - Under the Tuscan Sun. I also included a Leunig book for a bit of light relief. I hope she gets them soon & enjoys them. This is hard work but rewarding.
I joined the Birthday RABCK experiment on my birthday. When I joined I didn't really expect to get something this year as it was so late. But, TeanieBeanie was a great RABCK'er. She not only sent me a book from my wish list (Multiple Choice), but also she wrapped it and sent a card! Thanks so much TeanieBeanie for the special treatment:)
The pack from my Birthday RABCK Buddy RoryG arrived on last Friday, and sat on my desk tempting me! I opened it this morning and received from Rory G, The Map of Love by Ahdaf Soueif along with a lovely bookmark and postcard. Thanks so much, this book has been on my wish list for a while. The photo of my Birthday RABCK is HERE
I'm just getting ready to send Ftarazu her RABCK and was curious to know if those who have done this already register the book before sending it or leave it up to the recipient to register it if they want to. Please PM me to let me know.
Random Thought: As I was looking at the wonderful messages on the journal page, I was thinking how nice it would be to meet some more BXers through the Birthday RABCK Experiment. Perhaps once we reach the 1 yr anniversary of the BRE, chich might reassign everyone to new BRBs (i.e. once one full exchange between current Buddies has been completed).
I had so much fun with the project. I have a lot of ideas for next year. I was able to send of two books to my birthday buddy CEILI who surprised me (and my son) beyond belief with 2 books (ERAGON and ELDEST) we really wanted. This has been one of the best birthday months I've had in a while. I can't wait for next year because I have some ideas...
I sent LyekkaMarengo's package today! It contains two books from her wishlist (I'm not telling which ones, it's a surprise!), and a couple of other stuff... I hope it arrives on time, I don't know how long it will take, but I'm guessing about a week.
my gift from squirrel818 was wedge tightly in my mailbox today by my not so "up" mailperson...but it was still in tact and contained not only a lovely book of plays by thornton wilder but also a "stress" reducing package of bath goodies, candle and assorted teas...this is such a nice way to share with other bookcrossers and my thanks to squirrel for a lovely give and wishes and to chich for running this!
Since I love celebrating others' birthdays so much, I've been sending postcards to all experiment participants who have registered with RABCK.com. But I just realized I did not write that this was part of chich's Birthday RABCK Experiment!
i have received a wonderful book by Satnam : the chronicles of Narnia. It was a great birthday gift. I think i will keep it to read on christmas holydays but i just want to say i am very happy about this exchange.
I sent goodthinkingmax her little birthday package today Her birthday isn't until January 5 but I wanted to avoid the Christmas "postal craze", especially since the package has to travel all the way from France to Australia!
I thought this experiment was a great experience. My birthday partner and I had loads of fun opening up our packages. My partner was irishcoda and I received Mistletoe Murder by Leslie Meier, and A Merry Little Murder by Shelley Freydont. Just in time for Christmas :D

This was fun! My partner was SciFisstrs and I enjoyed "meeting" her very much and learning we have ancestors from the same country! :) I got 3 books that have been on my wish list for quite a while and so I am thrilled and look forward to reading them!
I think the experiment's a success & hope others feel the same way. :)
Catflap made my day! And it's not even my birthday yet! Two paperbacks (John Gideon's Red Ball and G.M. Hague's The Devil's Numbers) came here for Christmas... along with a box of Green & Black's organic chocolate. So lovely, Catflap! Thank you very much! (((((((((catflap)))))))))
I just popped by the post office to mail out a couple of books to KiwiWonder! I just received my Birthday RABCK buddy's details yesterday, and even though chich said that she isn't expecting a book till 2007, I can't possibly not send her something for 2006! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the package will make it to NZ in record time and arrive by Jan 3! :) I sent KiwiWonder 'The Eyre Affair', which was on her wishlist, and an extra book. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to pull together additional goodies! Anyway, birthday wishes to KiwiWonder and all the best for the new year!
I joined today and hours later I already got a "Birthday Buddy"! This is not only fast, but really fantastic! There are still some months to wait - so the birthday mail will have time to get ripe and wrapped up in a special way...
Thank you so much Katyan! I got my most wanted book of the year...'The Curious Incident of the Dog...' i've been hoping to get this book forever and you read my mind! I thank you also for the beautiful lil doggie keychain that looks so much like Satya! My first bday gift and what a lovely one! Thank you! and hugs to you and Satya..and some more for the super awesome Sarah (chich) who takes the time out consistently to orgainse and run something this wonderful and crazy! Happy New Year All!
(Here's a pic of my Snoopy and the Dog Katyan sent me)
Craftycomrade and I are both a bit behind with our gifts but I am posting off today... She had "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" on her wishlist so I am sending her "The Complete Adventures of Charlie and Mr Willy Wonka" which includes "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator".
Just joined this RABCK. Not sure, if I should register now already or not, but here I am anyway! Looking forward to getting the address of my mystery birthday buddy...

I am so incredibly *thrilled* --sumisez sent "Wicked" for my birthday--she picked the book I most wanted!! I love the music, and the premise, and now I finally get to read the book-YAY! And the red leather bookmark she sent is beautiful, merci beaucoup, surmisez--I'm looking forward to using it in many many books.
This rabck, sumisez' gift, is especially precious to me this year. New Year's Day my (almost 82 yr old) Mum took a really nasty fall --surgery to put a plate in- was on the 9th. So, I spent my b-day in hospital. To come home and open Wicked was just awesome!
Thank you, sur misez!
And thank *you*, chich, for putting this all together--what a fabulous gift you've given all of us!!!
I finally got leakey386's birthday present out to her yesterday - I wanted to send a few other things but it took me so long to find a book for her and get to the post office that I figured I'd better mail it as it was before I missed her birthday entirely. So watch out, leakey386 - there will soon be an "unbirthday" package in the mail for you as well!
It's here!!!!!I received my Birthday present this morning from my buddy (StoryChaser) including Middlesex, a beautiful card and a tasty chocolate. Thank you buddy and thank you chich for doing this. I'm so happy! *nona35 jumping up and down*
My partner's birthday is later this month *waves to LoriPed* but I was online getting another friend a present and decided to go ahead and buy hers as well. Wasn't sure to get a new or a used book, or to put a BCID on it or not, so I opted to go the safest bet: new without a BCID.
I'M So Happy. still-legbamel sent me a j.A. jance book that was on my wish list.Just started reading this author and just love her books thank you so much. wish legbamel's birthday was sooner. but you never know when something will be in the mail do you ????
