THE BIRTHDAY RABCK EXPERIMENT !
*** Woo Hoo!! 570 participants to this day ***
The purpose of this experiment is to set up teams of two BookCrossers who will send each other a book for their respective birthdays (hence the RABCK), the book being chosen from the other participant's wish list.
Here's what you have to do if you want to become a member of the Birthday RABCK Experiment (BRE):
1) Make sure you have a wish list set up with Cliff1976 (if you don’t, click here to create one).
2) Send me a PM with your personal details:
- your birthday (day + name of month)
- your address
- your shipping preferences (where you are willing to ship to)
I will do my best to team people up according to their location & shipping preferences and will then let participants know by PM who their Birthday RABCK Buddy (BRB) is.
[After you & your birthday buddy have exchanged books (after both birthdays have come and gone) you can either decide to get "reshuffled" so as to get a new birthday buddy for the following year, keep the same partner for ever & ever & ever or you can just say goodbye and go RABCK elsewhere:) If you decide to reshuffle, just PM me to let me know!]

Don't worry if you don't find your name on the list, making up teams can take quite a few days...
Just wanted to say that I think this sounds like a fun idea and am happy to have "met" dancing-dog.
Just a quick note to say that CosmicGirl's present was mailed last week, and although it didn't get there by her birthday it arrived today so it wasn't that bad :-) I'm sorry for the delay, but I had a hard time finding the book I wanted - Saramago's "All names", one of my favourites by this Portuguese author. Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday, CosmicGirl, and I'm glad you liked the surprise :-))
I am sending lady-sybil 5 books for her birthday July 7th. I won't be in town because I will be on a ship in alaska with my mom for a week :D These are the books are mailed to her: SONG OF SUSANNAH STEPHEN KING

Thank you so much sunlightbub!
I joined the b-day rabck experient deliberately after my special day. I didn't expect a present ;-) that soon! You really caught me off guard! I immediately started reading it, carrying it with me all the time, you never know if you get a chance when you get stuck somewhere!

Despite the fact that my birthday had already passed since I joined this experience, my buddy decided it didn't matter and I should get a present anyway. So today I got a surprise on my mail today (they actually left it on my mailbox, which is a miracle in itself, as my postal office hardly ever does that). A book from butterfly-noir, a very nice surprise (though she did tell me she was sending a book, she did not tell me which) and I'm looking forward to reading it... I'll make the time between my loans and bookrings, I promise. :)
Thank you again, butterfly!
Thank you again, butterfly!
I just received chich's PM. I am now officially a member of the BRE!!!
I'm so excited! Thanks chich for your wonderful idea! I will try to get other Greek bookcrossers to join as well. :-DDD

Lisagt sent me TWO books and really made my birthday shine. Can you believe she sent me "Almost French" not knowing that I leave for France in two days?! Then, worried that I was on a Bookring for said book, and not realising it was a *stalled* Ring, she sent another similar-type book, "On Persephone's Island", just to be sure I wasn't disappointed.
Little did she know how very much I wanted "Almost French"! It will be coming with me to France, where it will either be wild-released or sent to the next BXer in the stalled Ring. "On Persephone's Island" will wait on the top of my TBR pile for my return.
Thanks so very much to Lisagt and to Chich for making this all happen!

Glad you liked your bday surprise Brookler! It brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!
Have a great time in France! Lisagt

I have already started picking books for my buddy and her birthday is over a month away. I can't wait.
I was a bit late mailing out the package to rainbow3, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that her birthday RABCK arrives within a reasonable amount of time. I think I'm more excited about this than the birthday gal! LOL Here's wishing I could follow this package to Scotland and deliver it to rainbow3 personally. :)
Thanks for starting this, chich!

I've just got back home from a few days away and found my birthday present from bandaids: No Logo by Naomi Klein.

Came home today to find my wonderful Birthday rabck from CanPou, PS I love you by Cecilia Ahern. I was so delighted to get this. My kids tried to persuade me to hold off opening it until Monday, but I was too excited I had to open it.

My book was a little late in arriving, but it's still my birthday month so what does it matter?! :) I just received The Time Traveller's Wife from bookmanu in Portugal. I've been looking forward to reading it for awhile so I think I'll be moving it to the top of my TBR. :)
I received my bday book today from Brookler -thanx- a little late but as TinkEsq said "it's still my bday month so what does it matter!" Exactly! The book is 'Fall on your knees' by Ann-Marie MacDonald and came with a lovely bookmark so THANX to Brookler and chich for starting this lovely little adventure for me...
This is a fantastic idea!
I sent my buddy, Sterile, a book off her wishlist (a Janet Evanovich novel, I can't remember which one!) - albeit a few days late. Hope she enjoys it!

Guess what the first thing I did when I got out of bed on the morning of my birthday was???
Mirp sent me a book off my wish list 'The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud' and a very appropiate refrigerator magnet that says "When I married Mr. Right I didn't know his first name was Always"!! I certainly started my birthday with a big smile!!! Thanks, Mirp!!!!!

I've really enjoyed chatting with and getting to know T02S03B11D20. I mailed out her birthday present yesterday and although it may not arrive in time (it's so hard to get the timing of this right!), hopefully she'll be surprised! Don't forget to wish her a happy birthday this Saturday (Aug 27) :)
Thanks for putting this together, chich - it's a lot of fun!

Today I sent out some books for Dancing-dog's birthday. BUT...I forgot to enclose a card, so I will have to use this entry to say that I hope she has a great birthday! I was only able to find one thing off her wish list, so I hope you also enjoy the other things I sent!
I received my Birthday RABCK from Etherea. She sent me Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. Along with 2 bookmarks, a bookcrossing pin and a birthday card. The book is from my wishlist. Thanks Etherea for everything, I can't wait to read this book!
Woo-hoo!! Some books arrived today from T02S03B11D20 - one on my wishlist that I've wanted for a long time, one that looks really good and a little "sneak preview" book - these are great! Thanks T02S03B11D20 for helping make my birthday a happy one :-D
Just a quick note to say that I've received CosmicGirl's b-day present a few weeks ago before I went on vacation: it was "Just between us", by Cathy Kelly, a book that was on my wish list. Thanks so much, it was great :-)
Oh my god!!! I received my package today!!!
I couldn't wait until monday; I opened the parcel as soon I received it. It was so heavy... When I opened it I couldn't believe it. One book (undomestic goddess by Sophie Kinsella), 1 birthday card, 1 postcard, 1 bookmark and lots of candys (more than a kilo I'm sure).
Thank you thank you thank you RlyLv2Rd. And thank you chich for this fantastic idea.

just to thank you for this idea. I am happy to participate !
Thanks to PRCS! I received my Birthday gift about 2 weeks ago, but was strictly forbidden from opening it until today. And I actually made it! I came really close to opening it last night, because who would've known? Hehe.
More than I expected! Thanks PRCS. I received Lady Chatterly's Lover by DH Lawrence which has been on my list for a while to read, and Kiss the Girls by James Patterson, which although I've read many of his others I've never gotten around to reading this one. And a third book! Communion by Whitley Strieber, which sounds fascinating. AND a little book for notes, and other items to help in bookcrossing, along with a sweet card and drawing from her son. Very Exciting!! And a great birthday :)
Thanks chich for the experiment.

Well, I managed to get Mozette's books out to her on her birthday. I couldn't do it before as I was waiting for a book that was on her wishlist - Under the Tuscan Sun. I also included a Leunig book for a bit of light relief. I hope she gets them soon & enjoys them. This is hard work but rewarding.
The Millam's present is going today, sorry it's three~days late but I couldn't do it sooner. Happy birthday Millam, hope you'll like it.
I joined the Birthday RABCK experiment on my birthday. When I joined I didn't really expect to get something this year as it was so late. But, TeanieBeanie was a great RABCK'er. She not only sent me a book from my wish list (Multiple Choice), but also she wrapped it and sent a card! Thanks so much TeanieBeanie for the special treatment:)
The pack from my Birthday RABCK Buddy RoryG arrived on last Friday, and sat on my desk tempting me! I opened it this morning and received from Rory G, The Map of Love by Ahdaf Soueif along with a lovely bookmark and postcard. Thanks so much, this book has been on my wish list for a while.

I'm just getting ready to send Ftarazu her RABCK and was curious to know if those who have done this already register the book before sending it or leave it up to the recipient to register it if they want to. Please PM me to let me know.
Random Thought: As I was looking at the wonderful messages on the journal page, I was thinking how nice it would be to meet some more BXers through the Birthday RABCK Experiment. Perhaps once we reach the 1 yr anniversary of the BRE, chich might reassign everyone to new BRBs (i.e. once one full exchange between current Buddies has been completed).

A big thankyou goes out to Gypsyrose02 who sent me Ancestors of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley and a $20 book voucher. With the book voucher I brought Death by water by Kerry Greenwood.
Sent a book from Ftarazu's Wishlist to her today (I don't want to ruin the surprise). The post office said it should be there in two weeks, so it ought to be there in time.
I had so much fun with the project. I have a lot of ideas for next year. I was able to send of two books to my birthday buddy CEILI who surprised me (and my son) beyond belief with 2 books (ERAGON and ELDEST) we really wanted. This has been one of the best birthday months I've had in a while. I can't wait for next year because I have some ideas...
Just got my book! Its The Rule of Four and Im looking forward to read it. Thanks so much Ibis3 for this lovelly surprise!!
When I signed up for this and was buddied up with someone- my birthday was in a few weeks and hers had just passed- felt a little bad...

my gift from squirrel818 was wedge tightly in my mailbox today by my not so "up" mailperson...but it was still in tact and contained not only a lovely book of plays by thornton wilder but also a "stress" reducing package of bath goodies, candle and assorted teas...this is such a nice way to share with other bookcrossers and my thanks to squirrel for a lovely give and wishes and to chich for running this!
Since I love celebrating others' birthdays so much, I've been sending postcards to all experiment participants who have registered with RABCK.com.
But I just realized I did not write that this was part of chich's Birthday RABCK Experiment!
Recipients: bookmaniac70, Ramya, redhouse, fungirl503, nursie42

I just popped by the post office to mail out a couple of books to KiwiWonder! I just received my Birthday RABCK buddy's details yesterday, and even though chich said that she isn't expecting a book till 2007, I can't possibly not send her something for 2006! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the package will make it to NZ in record time and arrive by Jan 3! :) I sent KiwiWonder 'The Eyre Affair', which was on her wishlist, and an extra book. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to pull together additional goodies! Anyway, birthday wishes to KiwiWonder and all the best for the new year!

I finally got leakey386's birthday present out to her yesterday - I wanted to send a few other things but it took me so long to find a book for her and get to the post office that I figured I'd better mail it as it was before I missed her birthday entirely. So watch out, leakey386 - there will soon be an "unbirthday" package in the mail for you as well!
It's here!!!!!I received my Birthday present this morning from my buddy (StoryChaser) including Middlesex, a beautiful card and a tasty chocolate. Thank you buddy and thank you chich for doing this. I'm so happy! *nona35 jumping up and down*
My partner's birthday is later this month *waves to LoriPed* but I was online getting another friend a present and decided to go ahead and buy hers as well.
Wasn't sure to get a new or a used book, or to put a BCID on it or not, so I opted to go the safest bet: new without a BCID.
Should get there the next week or two!
LoriPed: Hope you enjoy it when it gets there!
Wasn't sure to get a new or a used book, or to put a BCID on it or not, so I opted to go the safest bet: new without a BCID.

This sounded like such a good idea that I could't resist joining. I'm planning to pop to the shops and get my 'partner' their birthday book, so it can be in the post and hopefully arrive in time.

My Birthday book is on its way.
I sent my birthday partner her present through Amazon.uk, and it's already there!!! They were two books from her wish-list: Tanequil by Tery Brooks and The Sound of Thunder by Wilbur Smith.
