Sometime last spring I just couldn't get into any book I picked up. So, I decided to get a little help: I went on the BC forum and asked people if they could recommend only one book to someone which one would it be. "Address unknown" was one of the books recommended to me and the first one I chose to read because once it was suggested by one person, there were quite a few supporting that choice saying it was one of the most impressive books they've read.
I did not regret my choice. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did - although I'm not sure whether "enjoy" is the right word here.

received today.
I just finished reading "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas". Same subject, different approach. Looking forward to reading this one.

quick read, but what a sad story of how quickly people can change and of revenge.
forgot to journal it, but the book was passed on to the next reader about a week ago.
A very short book that keeps you thinking for a long time!
It will travel to the next participant now (together with grovalskij's favourite)

Arrived today helping to create another bookring backlog.
A story written entirely in letters between a Jew in America and his German friend in pre-War Germany, revealing the darker side of what was just around history's corner. The book has a shocking conclusion despite its few pages and it wouldn't be right for me to reveal that to you here. The format heightens the tension of the strained relationship of the two letter-writers just as the tension in Germany heightens up to 1938. Address Unknown is ESSENTIAL reading for all, especially since it is so short (only 54 pages!), easy to read and few will fail to be shocked by it

On it's way in the roundabout.
Received yesterday - thank you.
A short read and, although not something I would have necessarily picked myself, I did find it disturbingly entertaining...and heart-breaking. You really have to feel for Max as he tries to understand how his friend is changing and as you read his plea to help his sister, you kind of want to stop him, knowing that it won't come to any good. I wasn't expecting the revenge aspect of the story, but I thought it was a twist that was excellently written and, you feel, perfectly justified. Although it doesn't answer all those questions, this is a book that goes someway to describing how Nazism overtook Germany.

Wow - what a powerful story. You get the impression that a lesser writer would have made a 300 page novel out of this, but Kressman Taylor's brief epistolary style makes the events even more shocking and forces you to 'fill in the gaps' yourself which makes it even more effective at conveying the horrors it hints at. One of the best books I've read this year - thanks for sharing it.

I've actually already read this in German a while ago.
It left quite an impression back then. Although it is a rather short book and although the ending was forseeable at some point, the story really hit home. The epistolary novel reads like an anecdote at times. It starts in a very burgeous tone, but soon develops into something completely different.
I enjoyed it then and I think it is a great pick for this roundabout. Cheers!

Such a small book, but what a powerful one! Knowing what we know now, and being able to fill in the gaps in the story - it just really hits you hard. A beautiful, sad book and I'm very glad to have read it. Thank you for sharing!
As you may have read on the forum, I was stupid enough to lose this copy of the book. I have bought a replacement copy, so the next few journal entries will be written here: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/13609753
