3 out 5

I really enjoyed this book, it was very gripping. I thought it balanced itself well. Since this is a book about a mother dying and the daughter having to care for her it could have been quite a harrowing read but i loved the way it was about the mother daughter bond. I really enjoyed reading the parts when the two generations were discussing their books and how the mother had already read them. It just goes to show and reminds us that are parents had a whole other life before their children came along. I thought Kate was such a dignified character that you really warmed to her.

all in all a good read. so sorry it took me so long to get to this but i am so glad i have finally read it.

starting a bookring

Got it in the mail today. Thanks Cambridgelass for sharing. I'm currently reading a ring book but this one will be right next on the list.

I might keep it a bit more than a month because of this but I'll send it right after I've read it.

The book is rather good, for sure. I must say I enjoyed the second part much better than the first but the first part indeed makes sense in the second one.

I'll send the book to spoiledrotten as soon as I get their address.

rabck from spoiledrotten; Lovely story about family relationships, dynamics, perception, and how a family fell apart when the matriarch died of cancer, tended sort of unwillingly by her daughter. The book is told from the daughter's point of view - with a surprise ending. What the daughter thought happened that ended her mother's life, didn't. So what did?

A well traveled book. In reading through the other journal entries, I didn't see anyone else mention the father/husband. I didn't like the way he guilted the daughter into giving up her career to move back home to take care of her mother. I felt he should have made some sacrifices in his life to help care for his wife. I did like the relationship that developed between the mother and daughter. The ending was a surprise.
