1 journaler for this copy...
I first read this book via a book-relay swap, and was glad to find this fair-condition copy at the local Used Book Superstore - and on an "all paperbacks for a dollar" day!
I've enjoyed many of Gaiman's "Sandman" tales, including his perky-Goth version of Death; Jill Thompson's graphic-novel version of some of Death's adventures makes an interesting change.
This story starts out with a meeting of the Endless: Destiny, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Dream, and Death [Destruction couldn't make it!]. There's been a prophecy (of course) and something big's going to happen... so naturally the siblings have to start squabbling, which gives them the chance to include some back-story about one of Dream's ex-lovers who's been in torment for millennia (well, every family has its dark little secrets, right?). But when Lucifer abdicates and leaves the keys to Hell with Dream, the Sandman, he has to decide what to do about it -- leave the souls in torment, empty Hell out forever, what? And when some of the nastier nasties turn up in Death's apartment things appear to get out of hand.
There are visits and advice from angels and faeries and demons, and of course from the various Endless as well, and the dilemma could provoke some interesting philosophical discussions among readers - or they could just enjoy the goings-on, whether they agree with the final resolution or not!
[See also Jill Thompson's cute The Little Endless Storybook, which has chibi-versions of the Endless.]
