The first Travis McGee novel. A story of a self-described beach bum who lives on a houseboat he won in a card game, and only works when he needs money. He'll find anything you've lost, as long as he gets to keep half. Not your usual hero, but a good guy. An exciting mystery.

Every title in this series contains a color. Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie Plum series does the same thing with numbers. An advantage to a trick like this is that it's easy to identify the series, and in the Plum case, the order is obvious.

MacDonald is well-liked by such other writers as Stephen King, Mary Higgins Clark, Spider Robinson, Dean Koontz, and Sue Grafton. I bought this book because I read about MacDonald's literary monument in Callahan's Key by Spider Robinson.
