A Thread of Grace

This is an interesting story about Jewish refugees and the Northern Italians who sheltered them during the latter months of WW II. The book is heart-breaking as so many of the characters, both Jews and Italians, meet with tragic ends. Yet it is apparently very well researched and very accurate in its storyline and characterizations. I found the story hard to follow at times as there are so many characters, some of whom change names and characters/roles as the story progresses. But it is worth a read as it depicts a significant aspect of history that is not well known.
Book will be released at the December 8 meeting of the TriValley BC group in Dublin, California.

Looks like I got this a couple months ago. Hope to read it soon...or was this a book for my mom? I'll have to check on that :-)
Happy to have this copy to share.
Here are my thoughts from last year - on another copy I've sent on a bookring:
a wonderful read - and great discussion in our book group!
For some reason, it was hard to keep the characters straight: Italian Jews, Jewish refugees, Italian Catholics, Germans - and I often referred to the list of characters in the front of the book!
Set in wartime Italy in the mid-1940's, in a usually tranquil area of small villages, this powerful, thought-provoking, heartwarming and heartbreaking story traces the lives of characters you come to really care about, the harsh challenges & hardships of wartime, the beauty of courage and kindness...
Thanks lisaxiii and Calif-Booklover!

I chose this book to catch! I 'caught' the book from a fellow booklover who is, like me a member also of "Paperbackswap.com", a great site for book searches when you want a particular book, list your books for swapping and others do the same, for every book you mail to another member you get a credit to choose a book for yourself from over a million listed on the site, then your choice is mailed to you, and so it goes on. I love sites that recycle our books for others to share. Think how many we are saving from a landfill, and how much knowledge, enjoyment, enlightened minds and erudition we are contributing to others. May all books remain on a journey to others through our hands! Happy reading! I shall be loaning this book to a friend nearby who will return it to me and I shall then send it by mail to my pen friend in Israel, I know he will continue it on it's journey. Ldybritt
