Letters from Burma
1 journaler for this copy...
For the last decades of Burma's traumatic history, Aung San Suu Kyi - winner of the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize - has been the inspirational leader of attempts to restore a democracy to her country. In these 52 pieces, originally written for a Japanese newspaper, she paints a vivid, poignant yet fundamentally optimistic picture of her native land.
Burma is currently known as Myanmar.
In her weekly column, Aung San Suu Kyi writes of many things — her daily life, her religion, her philosophies, and her opinions. She seems to be gentle and yet very determined. I'd like to read some of her other writings. I'd also like to find out how her life has been more recently, as these columns were written over 10 years ago.
This book will count as my reading for Myanmar in the Olympic Challenge, in which I'm reading things from every country that participates in the Summer Olympics.
I'm offering this in the "Passport to the World" Virtual Book Box
