Off this journal goes! Travel well!

Journal Entry 3 by Ravenbear from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Monday, September 13, 2004
I received the cat journal in today's post. I will take it to bed with me in a little while, with a mug of warm milk, and no doubt with my cat Leo who has taken up residence right on my feet for the entire winter, and endeavour to do him justice with the pen.

Journal Entry 4 by Ravenbear from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Thursday, September 16, 2004
I have written a little about our mad cat Leo, and the journal is on its way to goodthinkingmax.

Postscript: 1 October 2007... see journal entry of 1 October 2007 re the late and lamented Leo.

Journal Entry 5 by goodthinkingmax from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, September 25, 2004
Cat journal received a few days ago in the midst of moving. Am looking forward to writing about Max and 99 moving house. Right now am in the middle of a CATastrophe because 99 has been missing all day which is very out of character..will report on the outcome in the Cat Journal.

Journal Entry 6 by goodthinkingmax from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, September 28, 2004
I have really enjoyed reflecting on the life and times of my cats Max and 99, and writing about them in the journal. I hope there will be another bookring one day with the completed item! For those who read my previous journal entry, 99 was found! Max has contributed by leaving some furry bookmarks as he tried to "assist" me last night, which mainly involved rubbing his face all over the book. Amazing to think, all these cat scents travelling the world.

I will send this on to Jackiea as soon as I have her address.

Journal Entry 7 by goodthinkingmax from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, October 2, 2004
Posted off to Jackiea today, after one last glance at the lovely cat pics.

Journal Entry 8 by jackiea from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, October 5, 2004
The journal has arrived and Lucky can't wait to get started on her autobiography!

Journal Entry 9 by jackiea from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, October 12, 2004
Well. Lucky and I have done our bit. Will go in the mail as soon as I have an address from auntymel.
Thanks Libertine101, a great idea!

Journal Entry 10 by Melissa_Brown from Preston, Victoria Australia on Friday, October 29, 2004
So many beautiful cat pics!

I will be writing about Angie and Eliza, who have just been adopted out in preparation for our big move back to the city. I will also write about Charlie, who will be coming with us to Melbourne, but may have to stay a week or so in the "Cat Palace" at my Dad's.

Journal Entry 11 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Thursday, October 20, 2005
It's here!!!

Thanks for posting it on AuntyMel.
I am looking forward to reading all your entries and writing about our darling Sampson.

Here is a photo of him nesting on my partially finished quilt (he knows he wasn't supposed to be there too)!

Journal Entry 12 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Tuesday, November 1, 2005
I written my piece and am going to pass this on to Rarsberry when I meet her in a little under an hour. I have enjoyed reading about everyone elses cats, there are some great characters out there!

Journal Entry 13 by rarsberry from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Tuesday, November 1, 2005
boreal gave me this journal this morning.
I've had a quick flick through, lots of great looking cats.
I'll read it today and take a few days to think about what to write and find some photos of my little darling. :o)

Journal Entry 14 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Sunday, November 13, 2005
The Cat Journal was passed on to me by rarsberry at the Dunedin Bookcrossers meetup on Saturday afternoon. As soon as I've recovered from the trip and finished doing all my release notes and uploading the photos I'll try and convince Ming, Saffy and George to tell their life stories... or at least to pose for photos :-)

Oops! I just discovered this journal hiding amongst a pile of books I brought back from Dunedin. Sorry, I'd completely forgotten about it.

I probably won't have time to do anything with it this week, but I promise once Christmas is out the way I'll get an entry written and send it on its way.

FutureCat feeling guilty for holding up the bookring

Journal Entry 16 by futurecat from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Saturday, January 21, 2006
Ok, it took me a bit longer than I planned, but I've finally taken some photos of the cats, gone and bought ink for the printer so I could actually print them out, written my entry, and pasted the photos in.

It's been lovely reading about everyone's cats (one of whom I've actually met - Hi Sampson!). Between us we've got a really interesting bunch of animals, haven't we?

I think KiwiWonder is going to the NZBC Convention in Dunedin in a few weeks, so if nobody objects, I'll hold on to the journal until then so I can hand it to her in person.

It's been pointed out that I've been a terribly bad bookcrosser as of late, in particular with regards to this journal. In a very feeble attempt to make amends, I've PM'ed the next in line and will have this on it's way ASAP.

Journal Entry 19 by Firegirl from Tucson, Arizona USA on Monday, October 2, 2006
It's here! I've only read a few entries but am already laughing and enjoying it. Goodthinkingmax -- Max is beautiful! I love his sentry position atop the door. And, of course, dear Libertine, 'tis always good to see pics of your boys. With so many people still on the list, I'm afraid to take up too much space in the journal, but will definitely tuck in some pics and a note or two about my fur-children before moving it along. (Journal pic is of the wonderously handsome Romeo.)

Journal Entry 20 by Firegirl from Tucson, Arizona USA on Sunday, October 8, 2006
I've made my entry and this will be heading out again tomorrow. I tried not to take up too much space. Thanks for starting this, Libs! (Journal entry pic is of the most wonderful black cat in the world, Dante.)

Journal Entry 21 by LynnWrites from Tucson, Arizona USA on Sunday, October 15, 2006
I was very happy to hear from Firegirl that this journal was on its way. I truly thought it had been lost and had long given up on it. I plan to read everyone's entries and linger over the super cat photos before I attempt to chronicle bits and pieces about my own cats. It's going to be hard to sort through everything to decide what to include.

Pictured is my wonderful, loving, Best-Cat-In-The-World cat, Rascal. He just turned 18 in September of 2006.

Journal Entry 22 by LynnWrites from Tucson, Arizona USA on Wednesday, October 25, 2006
This journal was a great idea. I've enjoyed the pictures and cat tales so much. I laughed out loud at ravenbear's description of her cat's worship of the "big white humming box ! Everyone had wonderful stories and memories to share. Mine have finally been added, and I have PM'd "cj" for her address.
Note to libertine101: This book might have to be Volume One of a set; I think there are more people on the list then there are pages left.

Edited on 29 Oct. I have not heard back from cj. I PM'd again. I also PM'd the person after her, tuff517. She sent me her address so, if I don't get a response from cj, I will send the journal on to tuff517 in Texas.

the photo is a scan of the first page of my entry

Journal Entry 23 by LynnWrites from Tucson, Arizona USA on Sunday, October 29, 2006
Turns out "cj" is alive and well (but has been busy dealing with a sick cat). The journal will be on its way within the next day or two. Will let tuff517 know that I'll be mailing to cj and then cj will mail to her !

Journal Entry 24 by cj on Monday, November 27, 2006
Sorry for the delay in making a journal entry. Will be sending this on this week.

Journal Entry 25 by tuff517 from Elk Grove Village, Illinois USA on Friday, February 16, 2007
Received today!

Journal Entry 26 by tuff517 from Elk Grove Village, Illinois USA on Saturday, March 17, 2007
Couldn't get a reply from writergrl, contacted Lucinda. I really enjoyed reading everyone's entries, and loved the pictures. Cats are indeed as unique as their owners! Will update when I've sent to the next person.
3/19/07: Off to Lucinda!

Journal Entry 27 by Lucinda from Ventura, California USA on Saturday, April 7, 2007
What a lovely journal! This weekend I will enter the story of Macska, Smudge and Shimsa the Hobo Kitty.

Journal Entry 28 by Lucinda from Ventura, California USA on Wednesday, September 19, 2007
Didn't hear from luvmeowers, so am sending off to Fanclub today. I loved reading all the cats' stories and enjoyed their pictures.

Journal Entry 29 by fanclub on Sunday, September 30, 2007
Boy, I had forgotten all about this bookring! Imagine my surprise when I got a PM about it - like an unexpected gift! It arrived yesterday and I will be reading through it and adding my own bit before sending it on.

Journal Entry 30 by Ravenbear from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Sunday, September 30, 2007
This is just a short postcript to my original entry to the Cat Journal for Leo...I edited my previous entry, but thought maybe a new entry should be the way to go...

... the last journal entry has reminded me to inform the previous journallers and future journallers that our dear old cat Leo made his way to cat-heaven a couple of months ago. He was 19 human years old, nearly 20, and we had had him since birth. We miss him terribly, even all his orange fur all over our clothes. Vale Leo - we miss you every day!

Journal Entry 31 by fanclub on Monday, October 22, 2007
I have completed my entries and am mailing this off to staxman (kbgoffe did not reply). Thanks for sharing - we enjoyed reading about everyone's kitties!

I got it! I got it! No WONDER I forgot about this journal/book. Libertine101 released it on Thursday, August 26, 2004, and it's been a "fur piece" since then. I will read it from cover to cover (it's getting pretty full), then add my two cents worth, and send it on to the next cat lover. Thanks for the idea and for sending it on its journey!! MRJIGGS

libertine101...this was a fantastic idea!!

The only thing that would make it better is if we decided to make a "book boomerang" out of it, so that when the last person gets it, he/she sends it back to the person who sent it to them, etc.,...and we can all see everyone's photos and comments to the end of the ring!! ;D

Journal Entry 41 by your-book-fairy from South Orange, New Jersey USA on Monday, March 24, 2008
Sorry for the holdup on this one, everyone. My mom lives in northern Maine but has to spend the spring in Boston being treated for cancer, so I temporarily moved there to stay with her and unfortunately that meant my mail has been piling up at home, with this book buried in it. I finally went back home this weekend to get caught up and flipping through this book was such a wonderful antedote to a long and tiring few weeks. I've already PM-ed calicocollie, I'll just mail the book off without adding my kitties (here's my shoutout to Lucy, Noodle, Claude and Mooch) since I'll be away from home so much this spring and don't want to hold things up any further.

Journal Entry 42 by your-book-fairy from South Orange, New Jersey USA on Thursday, April 17, 2008
First of all, I have to give a big BC hug to MrJiggs, who sent me some wonderful, supportive, helpful emails right when I needed them most. I was in such a hurry to get the book off before I held it up, I didn't take her advice to stick a picture in the book and sign my name, but I will add a picture to this journal entry in the near future.

But I did mail the book over a week ago and it didn't have far to travel, so it should be at its new home any day now!

Journal Entry 43 by calicocollie from Irondequoit, New York USA on Sunday, April 27, 2008
Woohoo!!! I can't believe it's finally my turn to update this beautiful book. I got home from a weekend away and this was waiting for me.

Journal Entry 44 by calicocollie from Irondequoit, New York USA on Monday, June 2, 2008
Everyone's cats are so beautiful! I love reading their stories :) I have added my Edgar Spats (black and white "tuxedo cat") and Sabrina (calico) and PMd for the next address.

Journal Entry 47 by dawni from Windsor, Ontario Canada on Monday, September 8, 2008
I really enjoyed reading everyone's entries and seeing all the pictures of your lovely cats - thank you so much for including me in the bookring! :)

I finally managed to put my own entry together (my apologies for the delay), and have now mailed it to the next person on the list. Happy travels!

Journal Entry 48 by wingKarenBCwing from Prince George, British Columbia Canada on Saturday, September 13, 2008
How wonderful to receive the Cat Journal - I've thoroughly enjoyed reading through everyone's entries. Will be adding my Billie-Girl's bio and then sending it winging it's way over the mountains to the next feline fan!

July 2012 - Billie-Girl passed away about 4 years ago, from asthma of all things. She curled up one afternoon in her favorite sunny spot and just didn't wake up. The spot where we buried her has been growing thistles ever since - which amuses me to no end - it's perfect for her personality and I think of her every year when the thistles come back.

Thanks libertine101 for letting me take part in this great journal!

Journal Entry 50 by ottawabill from Ottawa, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, October 22, 2008
This fantastic little journal arrived in my mail last night, the same evening that cat Alexander came to visit with me and my Sammy for a week.

Alexander is a three year old orange cat my ex-partner has and Sammy is my 19 year old gray cat that had re-assumed the rule of the roost after Alexander moved out.

The two of them curled up on my lap to lea through the journal with me so I didn't get to make an entry last night. It will take me a little while to read through all the entries but I will try to be quick about it and get the journal on to the next stop.

Thanks for starting this Libertine101 and to all who've made an entry before me!

It's here!!! Finally!

I had almost given up on this one but was so happy that it made it! I am home today from work and have already been chuckling over the first pictures and stories!

I will have to go sort through my own pictures and it will be a difficult task to choose just a few to add. But I look forward to it! Thanks.

Journal Entry 54 by jessibud from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, April 14, 2009
I just finished up my pages and I have to say, this has been fun! The most difficult part was narrowing down the choices of pictures to include (and still leave room for a little story-telling!)

For the amount of time this journal has been travelling, I'd say it has at least a few lives left!

I've PM'd the next person in line for a mailing addy and will get it into the mail as soon as I have an address.

Thanks, Lib, for this. It was great fun to read about some of the legendary whiskered bookcrossers amongst us!

Journal Entry 55 by wingKarenBCwing from Prince George, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, April 14, 2009
I'm so glad that I was able to take part in this journal - but am very sad to tell you that my Billie-Girl slipped away in her sleep a couple of weeks back. It was very unexpected, and has definitely left a huge hole in my world.
A friend of mine wrote that the grief that we feel when we lose our furry friends is the price that we pay for the joy that they bring to our lives while they share our world.

Journal Entry 56 by jessibud from Toronto, Ontario Canada on Thursday, April 16, 2009

Journal Entry 65 by platypussj at Colchester, Essex United Kingdom on Thursday, August 5, 2010
Arrived this morning, thank you Daisynook. I can't believe it's finally here! I've been keeping my fingers crossed for it to arrive safely ever since I signed up for it all those years ago. I see I'm the last person to have it before goes back to Australia.

It's going to take me a little while to read through it and to get together things to put in it, so apologies in advance. I would like to take time over it as everybody's obviously put such a lot into it. As I type my cat, Morgan, has been scratching my new sofa and is now munching happily on some supper.

Thank you for the cat sticks, Daisynook, he'll love those. Can I post things like that to Australia or will customs seize them?!!

Journal Entry 66 by platypussj at Colchester, Essex United Kingdom on Saturday, December 4, 2010

I do aplogise for having kept this lovely journal for so long. I will post to catsalive as soon as I have her address.

There are some very endearing stories and the characters of many of our bookcrossing cats really do shine through. Some left me with tears in my eyes!

I've tried to post a photo of my lovely puss but I'm clearly doing something wrong! Oops, just seen the link! Doh!!! Off in the post to catsalive tomorrow.

Journal Entry 67 by wingcatsalivewing at Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, March 13, 2011
The journal is here. I didn't journal it straight away so my apologies to platypussj for making her worry. I put it away in a very safe spot so it wouldn't get cleared away to an op shop. I then forgot about it until both libertine101 & platypussj reminded me. It took some finding too.

It will be a little while before I can do my entry because I am currently grieving for one of my non-cat babies - Rosie, my 3-year-old Goldie (pictured on my extended profile). I can't do justice to my feline friends right now.

Journal Entry 68 by wingcatsalivewing at Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Friday, November 18, 2011
Dear friends,

Many apologies for the delay in action. I have just unearthed this journal whilst tidying up a lot of my Uni stuff - only one more exam and the torture of assessment-based living is over!

Said exam is on Thursday so I'll be free to do other things for a little while, one of which will be to complete my section of this journal & send it on to the next in line.

Regarding my previous post... While I still miss my darling Rosie, I now have her daughter Roxy living with me, plus Sherry (canis), Leo & Annabella (felis). In the same week that Rosie died, Roxy was whelping her first litter, so I wept buckets over the grandpuppies, and life, will ye or nil ye, goes on.

Journal Entry 74 by libertine101 at Perth City, Western Australia Australia on Saturday, July 14, 2012
Wow. After travelling around the world for 8 years, in fits, stops and starts, this journal is finally back with me. What a treat! So many lovely photos of BCers kitties in it. I am looking forward to reading all your stories.
Thanks to everyone who contributed and kept this journal going! In those 8 years, I moved house, broke up with partner, got a new job, a new partner, etc. One thing stayed the same though - my love for cats! My two kittyboys are with me, happy and healthy. I realize that some of the cats featured in this journal may have passed away now. My deepest sympathies to you if this has been the case. For those who still have their furkids with them, may they have long, healthy and happy lives! :)
