I bought this last year after reading 'Some kids I taught and what they taught me' on the Kindle - one of the best education books I've read, not just for the stories of refugee children in England but also for the account of 'Blastmuir' Secondary, the anonymised Scottish school where the author taught in the very early 1990s. I was a pupil in a school very similar to Blastmuir at the same time (to the point where I wracked my brains thinking of a 'Miss Clanchy', although I suspect any Scottish reader - especially any queer Scottish reader - of my generation would recognise their own school).
Anyway - this book is an anthology of the poems her pupils have written. Not something I'd normally buy but I did enjoy it and I think it needs to travel & be released in England, given the shameful reaction to the Euro 2020/21 final. I won't be travelling to England in the foreseeable future given COVID so I will start a bookray with this aim!

What a remarkable book. When I first opened it randomly and read the first poem, tears came to my eyes. The quality of these poems is really good and the fact that they were written by teenagers is amazing. I wish that it could be read in schools everywhere. There's so much that could be done and learnt from this experience.
It's such a privilege to have read this book. Thank you so much for sharing.
It will be sent to dolph1n soon
