very strange but interesting as have never read that. The heroes are so real that it reminded me of some of the people back home in Russia

I was very surprised by this book. I didn't realise how involved I'd become with the characters until I found myself welling up at the end.
It is an interesting book although I found it a little disjointed not knowing the time frame for the book more precisely (but that's just the way I am).

Just collected at the BCUK2004 Birmingham Unconvention to add to my tbr pile which has now tripled. yes, i am one of the many who arrived saying they wouldn't take many back, and then kept coming back from the table with a guilty look on my face trying to persuade myself and others that it didn't count for one of many reasons! The site of so many people taking books was wonderful - thanks netstation for organising the meet.

Written in the form of letters to and from Celie the main character - with god and Nettie the recipients, and , later some from Nettie. The story is really sad, but with a positive ending. I thought it would be really difficult to read - but it wasn't. Am keeping for Sandy undead when she comes back at Easter from Durham university.
I caught this from katweeble when I got back from uni. It may take a while, but I will read it eventually!
This book was brilliantly written and not at all what I expected! I really enjoyed it. It is very evocative. I do agree with perfect-circle though, in that I would like to know a time frame for it. I will pass it on to whoever wants it.
I've heard a lot about this book, so was pleased to find it at today's Salcey Forest meet.
