Like you, probably, I enjoy reading books. Growing up in Cherokee, Iowa, one of my favorite places was the public library. It seems there was more time to indulge my appetite for books then. Ray Bradbury was (and is) a favorite author, and I enjoyed Doctor Doolittle, ghost stories, mythology, Alfred Hitchcock "Three Investigators" mysteries, and science fiction.

Just about every category interests me, with the exceptions of romance novels and technical manuals. History, biography, science fiction, and science are my favorite types of books.

My careers(?) have been unplanned, and thus erratic. Out of college, I worked as a meat cutter for several years, then moved to Arizona and worked at several banks in many different positions. When I saw the opportunity to escape banking with a severance package, I jumped at the chance with the intent of earning a Master of Library Science degree. But after looking at the curriculum, it seemed like too much fluff. Plus, the severance money would run out long before I earned the degree. So, I became, of all things, a Realtor, which I enjoy, except the money is very unpredictable.

As in my work life, too often I start a book but fail to complete it. There is so much to learn, as well as experiences and imaginings to share, through books. If a book can no longer hold my interest, I'm off to explore another.

Well, I'd better get back to work!
