Taking this book out of laevina's Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror Bookbox.

I haven't heard of this series or author, but it looks like something I would like to read! Thanks for re-starting your bookbox!

This book rode to the end of the Vampire bookbox and is now headed to my shelves.

When young vampires are turning up dead, drained of their newly supernatural blood, it is more than the cops can handle. Luckily there are supernatural law enforcers out to take on these kinds of jobs. Anna was a bounty hunter when she was human, now she uses her vampiric powers to protect humanity. She's also exactly the sort of person this killer is targeting, so she has a little extra incentive to solve the case!

I hadn't read any other books in this series, and it definitely left me struggling a bit. I got background off the back cover and was tossed into the 'verse. I was left wondering a lot about relationships with other characters. I liked Anna, she's a bit of a bland action heroine, but she's got a strong personality with a snarky "voice" and the author's tight plotting kept me going. The writing can be a bit choppy at times, but I got used to it after a while.

Later: Not bad, though I admit that when we first meet our heroine's new lover, Lance - a hardbody underwear model with insane good looks, *and* who's a vampire, so he can match Anna in the strong/tough/sexy department - I couldn't help thinking "poor Anna, what a tough life she has" {wry grin}.

True, her life does get tough pretty quickly - Lance goes off on assignment (which relieved me, as I rather expected the hunky new lover to be the first casualty, or at least a hostage/torture-victim, in the escalating crisis) and Anna gets to channel her sexual frustration by hunting down the slayer of newbie vamps. Oh, and there are witches, and vendettas, and major magicks - plus a betrayal that rocks Anna pretty hard. I appreciated the way she was torn between her sympathy for a monster who'd lost a closer-than-loved-one and her need to protect others, and some aspects of the magical communities and their bickerings and relationships were interesting. I don't think I'll seek out more in the series, but if one came my way I might dip into it to see how Anna and co. are faring!

I plan to leave this book in or near Buckley's at around 5, on my way in to dinner. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
