Dead Air

The latest fiction offering from my favourite author. It's had poor reviews from some and I haven't had a chance to get around to reading it yet.
I think the thing I like most about Iain Banks novels, is his abiliy to write stunning prose alongside crude reality. Less on the prose in this novel, and lots of dialogue. Dead Air is perhaps his most topical novel, with the events of September 11th occurring in the 1st chapter, while the main character - a left wing shock jock - is throwing items off a converted warehouse roof during a wedding reception.
Maybe I'm just stupid, but I'm not sure what point Banks was making here. He has the ability to convincingly argue political issues without that being the only thing that matters at that moment, but I like books with a strong plot and I felt that the plot here was buried underneath the politics. The book is satirical, but I wasn't convinced by it.
