It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

Product Description
The shocking thing about the girls was how nearly normal they seemed when their mother let them out for the one and only date of their lives. Twenty years on, their enigmatic personalities are embalmed in the memories of the boys who worshipped them and who now recall their shared adolescence: the brassiere draped over a crucifix belonging to the promiscuous Lux; the sisters' breathtaking appearance on the night of the dance; and the sultry, sleepy street across which they watched a family disintegrate and fragile lives disappear.

Thank you WeeblyGirl,(plus Weebly and retromonkey) for this wishlist book which was part of my NSSFC parcel. I recently read Middlesex and loved it, so have high hopes for this one.

This is a beautifully written novel, and uses an inspired choice of narration. Seeing the enigmatic Lisbon girls through the eyes of man who used to adore them as a teenager is what really turns this tragic tale into great literature. You just want to keep finding out more about them. The central question of 'why did they do it?' haunts the novel, but Eugenides doesn't push any explanations on the reader. Instead, we are gradually brought into the complexity of personalities and desires within this shattered family which provides food for a multitude of theories.

Picked this up after reading Middlesex by same author - you can see the same roots in both books. As such I had high expectations, and have to admit I was a little disappointed by the mid-point, with less-than-believable plot twists and characters and some seemingly random observations from afar. However, he turns it round at the end by finishing with some deeper meaning that was lacking in the body of the novel. Still a good book and worth a read.
