I Am the Messenger
11 journalers for this copy...
I bought this copy to replace a copy that was sent to me and lost somewhere in the depths of the Royal Mail's postbag. Who knows when/if it will turn up again. I found this copy in a charity shop in Aberystwyth, and got really excited when I found it, as I was worried that I wouldn't be able to track down another one.

I really liked this book! I'm not convinced that the ending suited the rest of the book, but I enjoyed it all the same.
Hm, I don't know what happened to kbmarsh, but the book arrived at my place today. Thanks, lucy, for keeping the ring alive! I have been looking forward to reading this book very much.
Since it's the only bookring in my house at the moment, I will start in on it right away and should have it back on the road by the end of next week or so. :-)

Just jumping in to say that kbmarsh asked to be skipped. Hope you enjoy the book!
This was a very fast read, even though I didn't have all that much free time in the last few days.
I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved the writing style - not as much as I loved "The Book Thief", but still a lot. What I absolutely did NOT love, or even like, was the tacky ending. What the hell was he thinking? That was a totally lame cop-out and it took me right out of the story. Did he think we wouldn't "get" the message without him hammering it home in this ham-fisted way? Or couldn't he just think of a better explanation? Very, very disappointing, Mr. Zusak.
But, still, the story itself is nice, and as I said, I still like Zusak's writing style. I am glad I got to read this book. And I am glad that I can send it on to someone else now. :-)
I already contacted Haugtussa and hope to hear back from her soon.
Edited to add:
The book is on its way to Norway now.

Just a quick note to say that I'm reading the book at the moment, and as it is an easy read it will be on it's way soon.

I finished the book whilst sitting in the sun, enjoying the Skandinavian summer at it's best! I really enjoyed the book, well at least till the end! Like the previous readers I can't understand why the author chose that end...
I've already got ThursdayN's address, thus the book is soon 'on the road again'.

Thank you, Haugtussa! =)

I really liked the book! Great characters and plot, with a very nice touch with the book divided up like a deck of cards. Small things like that makes me smile! I have to agree with you all that the endings could have been better!
All in all, a very nice read!
Ihave Deepswamps adress and will ship asap!

Caught today, thank you!
It was okay. Nowhere near as good as The Book Thief, but I do think the premise was good and the ideas were solid.
I have PM'd the next in line and will have it on its' way as soon as I hear back.

Arrived today, Friday our time. Looks so interesting.
I've just started to read Stieg Larsson's third book in his Millenium Trilogy so it will be a few days before I can start this but I'm looking forward to it.
I see I am last on the list. Does anyone have any suggestions what should happen to it next or should I send it around among Wellington BookCrossers. One of our members put me onto "The Book Thief" and I'm sure she for one would like to read it.

I really enjoyed this book what a good writer Zusak is. Virtually a page-turner.
Just have to put a sort of synopsis here for anyone who comes after me.
I Am the Messenger is about a young man, Ed Kennedy, who's just your average underachiever who lives in a shack with his good friend, canine companion the Doorman, drives a cab, and hangs out with his equally underachieving friends. He is hopelessly in love with this best friend who is not in love with him. Suddenly, Ed's life gets turned upside down. First, he and his friends are customers as a completely inept bankrobber holds up a bank. Ed inadvertently saves the day and becomes a minor hero of sorts. Then, playing cards, aces with messages begin to turn up. Each ace bears three addresses. It's for Ed to figure out what he's supposed to do at each address. It's clear, though, that he's to help someone at each address in some way.
He starts receiving instructions for people to visit, and, somehow, he keeps doing it.
Perhaps the best character in the book is the Doorman, Ed's dog. Ed has entire conversations with his large, smelly, dog that are great.

I'm taking this to Wellington Meet-up tommorrow evening where I hope edwardstreet will find it to her taste. If not I'll bring it home and check out the BC Wish lists.

Receiving this book and meeting up with edward street and sherlock fan was a fun part of my trip and I got to check out Martha's Pantry- a purveyor of lovely cakes and teas and also an official bookcrossing zone...yay!
Have dipped into the book but it didn't suit my mood so I will try again at a later date or pass it on to someone who would like to read it.
Happy Reading in 2010!

Wow this book has an impressive history. Picked up from fellow bookcrosser. Loved the Book Thief so will have a read and pass on to other interested bookcrossers in Auckland before it carries on its journey.

This book was passed on to me at a meetup a couple of months ago. Found it hiding underneath some other books when sorting books out before.
Looking forward to reading it.
