This book was surprisingly good, and I say surprisingly because I've always thought Berg was light. Not that this is deep, but it is written with perspective and compassion and feeling without ever getting preachy. So what's it about?
It's about Ruth who is dying of breast cancer, and Ann - who has to watch her slow decline. And it's not black and white, or clear as to who has the roughest time or learns more from the other. And that was the part that I liked the most because it was a reflection of life which is untidy and unexpected, that sometimes we think we know how we'll react, but when the time comes, we're so influenced by the experience that our reactions come out of left field.

It made me wonder how I would personally react if I had terminal cancer. Who would I want around me? Would I be able to maintain a cheerful outlook? Would I lie to people to make them feel better about my death and pain? And who would stick with me through thick and thin?

Any book that can give that kind of food for thought is not half bad, imho.

Book arrived yeserday, our first mail in a week since Hurricane IGOR wrecked our highways. Thanks so much. I'm a 19 year breast cancer survivor and on my journey I've learned a lot from dying people, you can do a lot of living while dying so I know I'll gain some insights from this book.

Loved the book. It's perceptive and gets to the real friendship between some women. I found when I was battling m disease some friends seemed uncmfortable and some were there no matter how bad the day was and I thin how different Ann, Sarah , Halen and LD were and how each loved Ruth shows we need different things from different friends. I found new friends on this breast cancer journey that will be my friends for life.Thank you for sharing this wonderful book with me. I'll reserve it for a special eader.

what a lovely story! it's all I can say. Too many women I know (all age; the youngest 40) have died from cancer so in a way it was a bit of a sad read but also beautiful. Thanks so much kobie03 for passing it on to me.

I finally began to read this book and in 1,5 hours a taxi will take me to the airport and off to Venice and a sea cruise along the coastline of Croatia and Montenegro (former Jugoslavia). So far I've enjoyed the book, although the going might get ruffer when Ruth's disease advances. I don't know if I'll have access to a computer and I'm going to release this once I've finished it - do not know where exactly yet. Will journal more when able.

A friend of mine died of ovarian cancer a few years ago. She got five more years after her first crash (it took ages and a pulmonary stroke to find out what she had and she nearly died then) and she was a little disappointed to see how the help from friends faded away once her illness wasn't "news" anymore and she didn't die, although she wasn't that fit either. She lived on the other side of Finland by then, so it wasn't even an option for me to stick around, but I think that would be a normal reaction - all hands to the pumps when somebody with a multidog household is suddenly hospitalized, but when the situation is stable, even if shaky, there is just so many hours in your own day to do your chores, extra dogs or regular help of unknown lenght is not that tempting. That's just how it is.

Finished. I do not tolerate suffering people well, as we on the veterinary field are fortune enough to have the option of euthanasia. I've learned a year ago that assisted euthanasia is allowed in Finland - you are not allowed to administer anything lethal to the patient, but you can put something to his reach so he can take it himself. Great.

A beautiful book was released in a peaceful, beautiful National Park of Krka in Croatia.

I found the book at Krka national Park. It was a good coping book for anyone who is going through a friend or family member's cancer experience. It was a quick easy read!
