It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

Brilliant! I couldn't put this book down. The story is based upon a series of killings of young girls and although the subject matter is both disturbing and haunting it is how these killings affect Joseph's life that makes you want to read on. By no means is this a happy novel, but I really enjoyed the twists and turns that the story took as well as wanting to know who the killer is. Devastating but compelling.

This was with my pile of cards when I got back from Holland yesterday. Thank you so much for sharing! It was great timing as well, because I had to go to hospital to have some stitches last night, and I had nothing else to take with me to read. So should be sending this off again by the end of the week!

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I thought the ending was pretty obvious. I loved the use of setting and the way in which Ellory really seems to bring to life the setting. Reminded me a bit of To Kill A Mockingbird.

Sent to Teachie today.

Thanks Lucy, arrived today. Is there a reason Daemonwolf was skipped or do I send to them next?

A brilliantly written book, what wonderful imagery and metaphors. I had to keep going back and rereading passages because I was so wrapped up in the language he used. What a sad and frustrating life Joseph led all because of the evil in one man.
Sterile has got her own copy so asked to be skipped.

I found this story captivating! I really struggled to put the book down on occasion and considering I have been doing exams until recently that might not have been an entirely good thing! The book is written extremely well, full of metaphors and at the beginning I did find I had to reread a bit as I had to adjust to the language used which prevented me from taking in the actual story. Once I got used to it though I was well away and I would have to say that this book is the second best book I have read this year, coming in just after Life of Pie! I don’t agree with Lucy, as I didn’t guess who did it till the last chapter so I was quite surprised at the end of the book!

Thanks for sharing it Martha I agree with you it's a great book!!

This book is going to be passed to Korky, who I will be seeing at the Salcey Forest meet this afternoon!

Thanks for finishing the book in time for todays meet. It was going to join the big old TBR shelf but I've discovered that the author is going to be doing a talk at my library soon so I'd better stick this to the top of the pile.

I finished this yesterday and want to ponder a little before I put my review.
I'm taking this to the meet at Wendover Woods today (and need to get going in about 10 mins) so I'll edit and add my review later this weekend.

23/6/08
Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to be a bit more critical than the previous readers as I thought this book has some pretty major faults. Mainly I thought it was overwritten, it took a long time get where it was going and could have lost a third of the text by cutting out repetition - the endless rethinking of 'oh my mother, oh my lost love, oh the murdered girls'. Joseph lost sympathy for me as he got so self obsessed - and I'm sure he was supposed to evoke sympathy. I thought Alexandra Webber's character was somewhat of a fantasy (a writers fantasy perhaps?), endlessly nurturing of Joseph's writing talent no matter what he did and always up for some hot sex. Despite all of the red herrings I did guess who the murderer was, but thought it was a bit of a cop out that you didn't discover why he did what he did.
However, despite all my grumbling I didn't think this was rubbish. I especially don't want to be mean as when the author came to our library to do a talk on 13/6/08 he was such a nice chap!
Hope the winner from the bookswap game enjoys it.

Was discussing this book with pussinbooks at the Wendover Woods meet and deciding I should put it on my wishlist when, what-do-ya-know, it appears in a bookswap game 15 minutes later. Well fought over but I was lucky enough to win it. Thanks Korky!
