I saw The Golden Compass at the cinema recently and have been told by various people that the books are much better so I thought I'd better buy this and see if they were right. I enjoyed the film so I'm hoping the book won't be spoiled now!

I really enjoyed this book - it was quite different to the film in places but so much more detailed so I understood a lot more of the background and you got more of a feel for the characters. It was also much darker than the film. I'm really looking forward to reading the other books and seeing what happens next!

I caught this off KT-J's bookshelf as my current read. I've not read this before but I did see the film (although I've forgotten what happens and I've heard it's not a good adaptation anyway so that's good that I've forgotten what happens).

I wanted to read this before the BBC/HBO TV series is released later this year.

I loved this book, it’s so well written, the imagery is fantastic and it’s just a wonderfully crated novel. I thought all the characters where well developed and Lyra although she can be a bit annoying (I felt she squealed a lot) was brilliant as the main protagonist. I can’t wait to read the other books in the trilogy.

I'm not sure what KT-J wants to do with this now so I’ll put it on my reserved list until it's decided.
