It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.

And I thought I was a good procrastinator! {grin}

The book arrived safely in today's mail; many thanks! This will get me caught up on my Christopher Moore - at least until his next book comes out!

Moore has a knack for mixing hilarity with chilling horror; this book's a prime example. While it hasn't unseated Lamb as my very favorite Moore book, it's tied with Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove for second place. From the opening chapters, in which we meet hapless pilot and ladies' man Tucker - and follow him through one of the most cringe-inducing accounts of an accident I believe I've encountered in fiction! - to the arrival on the mysterious island of the title, to the (wildly improbable but quite satisfying) resolution, this is a very entertaining book.

There's a hilarious riff on Hamlet that features strongly in Tucker's past. [I began to suspect that Moore was going for something when I hit this passage: "Tuck had grown up in Elsinore, California, northeast of San Diego, the only son of the owner of the Denmark Silverware Corporation..."] There's a cargo cult. There's a ghost - who, when not meddling with the affairs of mortals, plays cards; check out the cameo appearances at the card table. There's a clueless hero who only wants to regain his pilot's license but finds himself confronting some exceedingly nasty evilness, aided by the aforementioned ghost, fruit bat, and cross-dressing navigator. And it's all told in Moore's quirky style, which hops from laugh-out-loud to oh-my-God in a moment... Strongly recommended! [Thanks, greedyreader!]

*** Controlled release: I'm sending this to BCer Flambard in the UK, since it was on his wishlist. Hope you enjoy it!

It's arrived! Many thanks Gory - it's gone to the top of my TBR pile!

Now, should this be called "Island of the Celestial Seductress"? Or perhaps, "Island of the Frustrated Cannibal"? The title just doesn't seem to quite go with the story - but, hey, what a title! And what a story! How can you fault a book where one of the main characters is a fruitbat called Roberto from Guam who wears diamante sunglasses and looks like Diana Ross? An ace read! And I laughed out loud. I think I know just where this is going next.......

Picked up at the Meet-up. Sadly, I have to be back at work now, but I'll come back when I've finished - and at least I get to register the books I just found right away!
Fantastic title - I enjoyed Practical Demonkeeping, so I hope this'll be fun, too.
Alex26 liked the title, too - I've promised to pass this on to her when I've read it.

Quite good fun - not as heavy on he supernatural as I'd have expected. Basically a quirky comedy-thriller. Interesting cargo-cult background.
Moore seems unafraid to put quite a bit of sex and violence into what is mainly a comic novel.
interesting asides and throwaway ideas - the hero's backstory is an updating of Hamlet, for no particular reason, and the chapter "Valhalla: from the Runyonese" is a lovely Damon Runyon pastiche, even down to the cynical narrator with a soft centre.
This is reserved for Alex26, who was intrigued when she saw it after I'd picked it up at the Meet-up.

Caught from Londonmet. He saved it for me because any book with the title 'Island of the Sequined Love Nun' just HAS to be read!

OK, I'm a bit late on this. I'm releasing it to a friend who I know will enjoy for exactly the same reason I did - the title. Will update review later (when it's not 12.10am!!!).

We found it at the Peace Pagoda, on top of a ledge. I thought it was great fun, and devoured it. Perfect for people who like surrealistic nonsense. Which I do.
