my sister gave me this for last Christmas, simply because i'd liked the man's speech to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. it might be a very insightful book, but i have no desire to read it. i hope someone else enjoys it.

I really, REALLY had hoped to have read this by now, but it still hasn't happened. So I'm loaning it out to tenneh, who is apparently more efficient than I am! :') However, I vow I'm going to have it read before the election!!!

This book is a nice eye-opening narrative of Obama's family history, his own personal background, his struggles & thoughts as a youth, his search for "self", and personal discovery of his roots. It was refreshing to read, in his own words, about where he comes from, as opposed to the Obama that the media has created. As an Obama supporter myself, I was anxious to find out more about his personal nature versus just his political views that we hear day to day currently. While I was not blown away by this memoir (he is indeed well-spoken, but almost too philosophical at times), I did enjoy being able to trace his roots, prior to his birth, up until his more recent years. The book is divided into three sections: one taking place primarily in Hawaii which details his mother's family & his younger years; the middle section taking place in Chicago where he struggles to find his niche in the working world; and the last section taking place in Kenya, where he travels to discover & explore his African roots. Each section has its own distinct characteristics, but they fit together to evolve into a coming-of-age self discovery.

This book will be mailed tomorrow to start the first leg of its bookray journey!

I so enjoyed reading this book. I have been an Obama fan from the start, and learning about his life before becoming a presidenatal candidate just confirmed my feelings, made them stronger even. Now I want to find a copy of The Audacity Of Hope. I really believe everybody should read this book and find out for themselves who Obama is and what he stands for. Thank you so much for sharing this read!

i'm breaking into the middle of this book ray to say that i finally did read the book. i had been so bothered by the 2004 pres election that i'd forgotten what i liked in the speech he gave. then i watched the speech he made announcing his candidacy, and i've been a fan ever since. i've volunteered with the campaign some.

when i did go out and get another copy to ready, i was really struck by how open he was in discussing his life. the thoughtfullness and introspection evidenced in the book are some of the things that really attract me to him, and that make me thing he'll be a good president.

so i hope all y'all enjoy it too.

The dreams arrived safe and sound.
They have to wait a bit...

14-Feb-11
My boyfriend started to read it - but I don't think he will finish it.
I read the first pages over the weekend, but it didn't grap me.
So, I think this will travel now since it was stalled too long here.
I'm very sorry for that.

Nagwan don't want to read this book again.
And from the QueenSissy I don't have an address/reply yet...

18-Feb-11
Will be sent to the next participant on Monday.

Journal Entry 29 by QueenSissi at Seia, Guarda Portugal on Monday, March 14, 2011
It has arrived - thanks!

Journal Entry 30 by QueenSissi at Seia, Guarda Portugal on Tuesday, June 7, 2011
While looking at this book I suddenly realized how different Portugal is. Obama's life is truly amazing and possible for someone living in such a large, trying to integrate, country. Even if this is also a bit of advertising, the way life in the USA is depicted seems to be quite interesting.

sending it forward ASAP. lucy-lemon and citibelle asked to be skipped.

Journal Entry 31 by QueenSissi at Gouveia, Guarda Portugal on Tuesday, January 3, 2012
After trying to contact dare2believe and pming with indygo88, I sent this book to a friend's home who I think will apreciate it and hopefully turn her into a bookcrosser...
