The book Love Medicine is many minor stories that individually make up the lives of large Native American family over decades. I admit, the relations can be confusing to remember, but it’s not necessarily the relations people should remember or focus on.
There is no real chronological order to the stories either, because that’s not the point. The characters are often portrayed as individuals and the short stories do tend to have nothing to do with each other because. You are suppose to pay heed to the story you are reading about at the time, pay attention to the ones who’s eyes your viewing the story through. It’s the rich web of life that these characters live through that the reader should center on. How they suffered, loved, and hated with all that they where.
The Native Americans in this story don’t have it easy in many respects because that is the reality of it. For them as a family and people, but also for all regardless of nationality. I just want people to see them as that, people. The fact that they are Native Americans is just an under tone to the stories being told.
