Sink Reflections

The FlyLady system has a horde of devotees who call themselves "FlyBabies." The author seems to have a good plan, it was just not for me. You're not reading this book for the writing either; I found the style to be cutesy and amateurish. Guess I'm just no fun. Bah humbug!

Publishers Weekly
In her debut book, Cilley, a.k.a. "The FlyLady" to the thousands who log onto her FlyLady.net Web site, reaches into the everywoman's home to help make her housecleaning more fun and her life more organized. Beginning with "Shiny Sink 101," Cilley explains how a spotless kitchen sink can direct even the most discouraged housekeeper onto the path of well-ordered domesticity. Through several straightforward routines, including the 27 Fling Boogie (the cut-throat practice of quick junk disposal), the Five-Minute Room Rescue ("another step on the road to clutter recovery") and the Hot Spot Fire Drill (for an area that, like a forest fire, takes over your home), Cilley advises her "FlyBabies" on how to overcome clutter and CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome). Filled with testimonials from online followers, the book aims to help readers establish manageable daily and weekly habits by incorporating spirituality and family into the program. Detailed and direct, this is a guidebook for the stay-at-home or working woman who wants to have it all, including her sanity. (Oct. 8) Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.

Thank you, Dutch-Flybabe. I've been subscribed to Flylady's emails for about two years now, so I probably know the theory by now. Maybe reading the book itself will take me to another level.
N.B. Boekenxnl would also like to read this book.

I'm not sure I would give the book an 8, but FlyLady's website made me think differently about how and when I clean my house. I used to follow the daily challenges (usually a week behind), but gradually I started to be irritated by all the emails as more and more was added to the website and radio broadcasts were added and YouTube videos and so it went on. And the testimonials about the products and the system really started to annoy me. Marla Cilley's style is extremely American South, extremely twee and cloying, and I couldn't take it any more! This book is the plain, basic programme, no extras. If you can implement it yourself, this is brilliant. If you need extra help, follow Kelly's daily missions on the website and your house will gradually get cleaner and less cluttered. I now get my organising inspiration from another website: www.getorganized.com which I find more businesslike and it works better for my mind-set. There's more than one way to beat the clutter monster!
Given to Boekenxnl at the opening meeting of obczHOFinOSS.

I've taken it with me from the meeting. I wholeheartedly agree with bookguide. And oh, the emails, the thousands of e-mails. But sometimes, when the need is high, I rejoin again. Anyway, let's try this book out.

Not that amazing as some people would like you to believe. it feels quite Southern and it has that perfect woman feel over it. A bit Stepford wives. It's also quite old fashioned. All those testimonials from women of whom the husband suddenly was quite interested, because these women started doing the housework 'properly'. Marla also turned a bit nasty when I started the last part of my book. She also assumed that all women are the same. For example they all suffer from perfectionism, apparently.
This was still left on the tables in Castricum by the end of the day, so I took it home with me to save it from Book Heaven. I am a bit of an organizing junkie, so I think I will read this myself before it moves on!
Sending this in a nice book full of books to Camperfan.
