Precious Ramotswe is the eminently sensible and cunning proprietor of the only ladies’ detective agency in Botswana. In Tears of the Giraffe she tracks a wayward wife, uncovers an unscrupulous maid, and searches for an American man who disappeared into the plains many years ago. In the midst of resolving uncertainties, pondering her impending marriage to a good, kind man, Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, and the promotion of her talented secretary (a graduate of the Botswana Secretarial College, with a mark of 97 per cent), she also finds her family suddenly and unexpectedly increased by two.

Really enjoyed this book. It was my first experience with Precious Ramotswe so didn't really know what to expect. I'm hoping to read the other books in the series in order. I know I'm in a book ring for the 1st one but didn't keep track so can't follow it up. Have to keep resisting buying one when they are on special. A matter of principle now!!

Since reading the book I have learned that a relative of Alexander McCall Smith was a pioneer Doctor in NZ and did great things setting up various health schemes in the North of the North Island. That makes these even more special in my view.

Haven't made proper plans for release yet as it is too good to release in all those places I release books and then hear nothing.

Sorry to be so long in writing this a I red it almost immediately after it arrived, so apologies for not writing sooner.

RELEASE NOTE

Mailed to Libragirl today 2 Dec so hope it doesn't get too tied up in Christmas mail.

I'd temporarily mislaid her indication that she would like this book and was truly delighted to find her message after trawling through my kept messages knowing that someone had specially asked for it.

PS with reference to my last journal entry I did actually read the book - I didn't paint it red as my careless entry indicates!!
Hope you enjoy it. I certainly did.

This book came on holiday with me to Point Lonsdale, Victoria, Australia over the Christmas/New Year vacation. It was my first read of this author and I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful story.

The book has been left at the beach house for others to read.
