Wat heerlijk om de Famous Five boeken in het Nederlands te vinden! Ik heb ze allemaal gelezen toen ik nog vrij jong was. Het is waar dat sommigen van hen ideeën en veronderstellingen hebben die niet langer acceptabel zijn, deels omdat ze uit een tijd komen waarin het niet normaal was om waarden in twijfel te trekken of ernaar op zoek te gaan. Kunnen we ze gewoon lezen als verhalen over kinderen die avonturen beleven? Is het mogelijk om van het nummer te genieten zonder de tekst al te nauwkeurig te onderzoeken? Misschien, omdat ik spreek vanuit een positie van voorrecht en recht, is het niet aan mij om te zeggen. Ik geloof echt dat het een gesprek is dat we zouden moeten voeren, maar ik ben geen voorstander van boekverbranding. Zoals ik al zei, ik heb deze boeken zelf gelezen, en toch ben ik me bewust van vooroordelen en het koloniale verleden, de behoefte aan een nieuwe relatie met de natuur en mensen met andere culturele verhalen.

Ik registreer dit hier en laat het staan ​​waar ik het vond, samen met vier andere in dezelfde serie. Ik ben benieuwd wat andere mensen van ze vinden.

How wonderful to find the Famous Five books in Dutch! I read them all when I was quite young. It's true some of them have ideas and assumptions that are no longer acceptable, partly because they come from a time when it was not normal to question values or seek them out. Can we read them simply as stories about children having adventures? Is it possible to enjoy the song without examining too closely the lyrics? Perhaps, because I am speaking from a place of privilege and entitlement, it is not for me to say. I do believe it is a conversation we should have, but I am not in favour of book burning. As I say, I read these books myself, and yet I am aware of prejudice and the Colonial past, the need for a new relationship with nature and people with different cultural stories.

I'm registering this here and am going to leave it where I found it along with four others in the same series. I look forward to finding out what other people think of them.
