An essay; an adaptation of a Ted talk.

I’m re-reading this excellent little book in anticipation of putting it in the small box of small books bookbox. As I read, I contemplate making this the journal for the box so that everyone can have a chance to read it if they’d like.

Journal Entry 6 by winghyphen8wing at Honolulu, Hawaii USA on Wednesday, June 15, 2022
This very attractive little book and the Small Box of Small Books bookbox arrived on Tuesday, June 14. The cardboard box itself needs to be replaced, but at least the weather was dry, since the mail carrier left it exposed to the weather...

Currently the box has 16 books plus the journal book - it looks like Feng Shite must've snuck into the box at the last minute as it was leaving erishkigal.

I know so little about Nigerian names that I hadn't previously realized that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was a woman....but it's an excellent essay. The only trouble is that it's a bit of preaching to the choir: most people who read this book are likely to already agree with much of what she's saying. It's the people who don't who most need to be reached.

I find the cover art very appealing. :)

Journal Entry 10 by wingGoryDetailswing at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Monday, August 1, 2022
The bookbox of small books reached me today, with this book as its journal. Will make my choices and get it moving again soon! (The box currently has 16 books in it, plus the journal-book, with a variety of "small" books - the smallest by circumference is 2 3/4" by 2 3/4".)

Later: I enjoyed this powerful essay very much, despite the often-bleak examples of blatant and all-too-current sexism that Adichie describes. (In several places she's called out for sounding "too angry," which is pretty darned infuriating in itself; there are times when one really should be angry.)

My selections:

Much Ado About Nothing
Eve's Wisdom
Rick Steves' Italian Phrase Book and Dictionary
Ghost of a Chance
The Winter's Tale
Little Herr Friedemann, and Other Stories
Silk
By Myself
AIDS: Your Questions Answered
Selling Secrets You Can't Afford To Miss

Aaaaand the box is home again. I don’t know if the box arrived very late last night, or very early this morning, but when I opened the back door about 7 AM, there it was, propped in the doorway.

Having a quick look through while having my coffee before getting busy, and I must say I am absolutely confounded by some of the books in here… I did say whatever you consider a small book…but some of them….???? (like a 400 page mass-market)…
If I decide to do this again, maybe I should put a page limit in the definition LOL 😂 😂

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
