CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book is part of the Bookish Book Box being circulated in memory of MaryZee, who was a passionate Bookcrosser and sadly died in September 2012. Hopefully it will cross the path of someone who will enjoy it.

I'm claiming this softcover from the Bookish Book Box in Memory of MaryZee. It's described on the cover as being a modern retelling of Austen's Persuasion, which is a pretty high mark to aim at; perhaps I'd have liked the book better if I hadn't seen that {wry grin}.
As it turns out, the book isn't all that faithful a retelling of the novel, but as many aspects of Austen's book were very much of their time, a modernization would feel weird if it relied too much on those details. Still, given the bookish heroine and the setup, I'd hoped to empathize more with this Anne, and I found that I couldn't. Even worse, I wasn't convinced that the course of true love won out here - didn't seem quite the right pairing, given all that went before. Ah, well, perhaps someone else will get more out of this than I did - especially if they don't try to compare it to their favorite novel of all time {wry grin}.
