I got this good-condition softcover from the Book Cellar, for another release copy. It's the first volume of the manga series based on the light novels. The story is set in an alternate history where vampires and humans co-exist (more or less), and the main political powers include the New Human Empire - and the Vatican. The main character is one Abel Nightroad, a special agent for the Vatican, with some unusual abilities of his own...

When we first meet Abel, he seems to be a very ditzy priest, easily lost and rather clumsy. He meets young Esther, a nun, in a city that's being beset by vampires, and where there's danger - and treachery - at every turn. It isn't long before a gloating vampire finds out just what this goofy-seeming priest really is.

Later on in the battle against the encroaching vampires, Abel gets some reinforcements, including the android Tres (code name: Gunslinger), whose combination of deadly accuracy and clinical battle-savvy cause Abel to murmur "You're so dreamy!" [Tres is very good-looking, but I suspect it's his lack of those messy emotions that's more appealing to our hero.]

Not that there's time for admiration, what with all the combat and plotting. And this is just the first volume... I know from the anime that things get very, very convoluted very quickly, with religion and diplomacy and threats of genocide all involved.

[The TV Tropes page for the series has a lot of interesting/entertaining/amusing info, but beware of spoilers.]
