Picked up at the thrift store. In my TBR pile. From back cover:

Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted black "stand-in mother", Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina -- a town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Madonna. This is a remarkable novel about divine female power, a story that women will share and pass on to their daughters for years to come.

Thank you CasseyTara for sharing your book.

I found this to be an enjoyable story. I liked the characters, the style of writing, the flow of the book. I liked the way the author relates the life of bees, to the life of humans. And, I learned some things about bees too!

I am glad that I have read this book.

I will ship it out just as soon as I get the next address. Enjoy!

Received in the mail Sept 11. This is a charming book that I think I'll get for my PC. It is a good story written in such a smooth style. It read really quick, but isn’t mindless fluff (not that there is anything wrong with mindless fluff!) I enjoyed the way the people story coincided with the bee story. I found that I remembered some of what I learned when I used the honeybee as the topic of my fifth grade science project! It almost made me want to get a hive! I especially liked the interview with the author at the end of the book. I think this would be a great book for a group discussion. With tea, biscuits & honey!

I’ll pm greenfrog03 and send it on.

Well, either this book is lost in the mail, or lilsher has received and hasn't journalled, but since she won't respond to my PMs I don't know which it is! At any rate, rubyjules has offered to restart the ring with her copy of the book, which can be found here!

Journal Entry 12 by lostbookisland on Sunday, September 24, 2006
This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.

All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.

It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.
