This is a very grubby book which has come to the end of its library lending days. I bought it from York Library for Nu-Knees. I have challenged her to read a wide variety of library non-fiction in 2013 - specifically a book from each of the 10 major dewey classes. She's due to start this month with a book from the 000s, so I picked her out this one which bears the spine label 002.0207. It looks entertaining so I might have a flick through myself first.

Thank you, tree-hugger! I'm quite excited about your challenge to read my way around the library using the Dewey Decimal system! Over the past few years I've been encouraging myself to read more non-fiction, at least one and preferably two a month, but I must admit that most of them have been biographies or histories or both, i.e.biographies of historical characters, so it's good to be challenged to widen my scope this year!
And thank you for providing this one from the 000s which is my starting place, January 2013!

A crazy concept! Totally bizarre!
Robin Ince writes of his obsession with collecting literary rubbish aka 'books that should never have been published' (p16) from charity shops and similar outlets around the country. His spending limit is £3 which seems a little high to me - that's Oxfam and British Heart Foundation prices (LOL!)
I can do no better than quote Danny Wallace as quoted on the front cover: 'A funny and fascinating tour through the books you didn't know you didn't need to read'
Exactly!
And yes, it is funny!
Personally I think it's a shame he starts with a section on Sex although I realise it might be an attention-grabber for some readers! But for me, wading through pages of references to pornography and such like had me wondering just what I'd let myself in for .... I soon found out!
With my tongue firmly in my cheek, I'd like to offer a candidate for his chapter on Autobiographies: There and Back Again by Sean Astin
It might be a little unfair to also mention Anything Goes by John Barrowman as I know some who've found it interesting ....
I'm tempted to quote all sorts of snippets from the text - but if I started I wouldn't know where to stop, so I won't!
Thanks again, tree-hugger, for this weird and wonderful reading experience!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

With the other fundraising books behind the tills. Please donate the requested 50 pence to their current charity, Carers' Resource - thank you!

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 well over 9 million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
