Too historical for my tastes - I did know better when I bought it, but it was very cheap and the cover (different to the one shown here) was so beautiful and I do love Japanese things, so I thought I would give it a go anyhow. I did manage to read it all the way, through, but with a lot of skimming or I wouldn't have lasted. I hate to admit i am not a very deep reader and battles and history bore me!
To me, the main point of interest was the young female narrator. The thing that interested me was how the women of these times lived, and this young character was very well written indeed. Of the other characters, there were too many and I found them all hard to keep track of (plus a lot of them seemed surplus). I am sure this is a story that someone else may really enjoy, but personally it only held my attention in a limited way.
