Bought today at used book sale. Have been waiting for this one!!!!
I loved another book (The Girls) by this author and was looking forward to this with great anticipation. I did like the story and the main character, Mary Gooch, but just not quite as much as the last read. Nevertheless, a good story about a morbidly obese woman - her hungers, fears and desires - and her evenutal metamorphosis after some sudden changes in her life.
If you enjoyed The Memory of Running (Ron McLarty), this is a similar kind of story. And, it's great because there is a surprise mention of a favorite book swapping phenomenon...but I won't say more...

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending to another BCer who had this on her wishlist. Sorry for the delay. Enjoy!
Received safely in Maryland today. Thanks for sending this to me, Wildflower! I haven't read anything by this author, but I wanted to read about BC (like I don't know anything about it ;)
I'm going to try to read this sooner rather than later.
I'm going to try to read this sooner rather than later.
I don't often read what is typically called "women's fiction" but I do tend to read a large variety of books. When I heard about the BC connection in this book, of course I wanted to read it. I wasn't sure how far into the story the BC bit was (and I won't tell for other readers), but before I knew it I was involved in Mary Gooch's life. She has a very believable voice, and this is certainly a very quick read. I liked the story from the beginning, as we learn about Mary's life, and her growing-up years, but I thought the story really picked up when she began her journey and began to shake up her routine. I can't decide if I liked the ending or not; I want to know what happened to Mary in the rest of her life.
I loved the BC bit so much; I want to remember it forever, so here it is:
"...Her attention was caught by the bookcase, where she spied, miraculously, the bestseller she had begun to read on the plane and had lost along with the purse. Uncertain as to whether, as in a library, she was required to sign the book out, she approached the counter to ask, "Can I read this?"
"Uh-huh," the woman responded without looking up from her computer screen.
"Do I have to pay? Do I have to sign it out?"
"They're for guests. Most of them are from bookcrossing. This location's a favorite drop-off."
"Bookcrossing?" Mary asked blankly.
The young woman looked up, smiling through her irritation. "People leave books for other people. They do it all around the world. Bookcrossing." She might have added the teenaged refrain - duh.
"Why?"
"To share books." Again - duh.
As she found a spacious leather chair near the bookcase where she could comfortably read while she waited, Mary enjoyed the idea that a complete stranger had left the book for another complete stranger's edification, and thought of the volumes communicated in the exchange."
Many thanks to Wildflower37 for sharing this excellent book with me. I'll now be keeping my eyes open for Lansens' other books. I have a couple of people at work I want to lend this to, but then I'm not sure where it'll be going for its next home.

This book is off visiting a couple of my work friends for a few weeks. Hope they enjoy the book as much as I did!
This is back with me now, and is looking for its next reader.

I grabbed this book when I saw it because I really enjoyed reading a previous book (The Girls) by the same author. Thanks for releasing this book at the Westminster Bookcrossing meet-up, MaryZee.
This is a book I've had too long without reading. It's time to release it!
Sadly, MaryZee is no longer alive. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I'm releasing this book at BookCrossing (BCinDC) meetup very near my own home!
This is a great book to release at a BookCrossing meetup because this book once belonged to our dear, late BCinDC member MaryZee whom we remember with fondness. Rest in peace, dear friend.

One of the stack of books I brought home from today's meet-up. I should have journaled it sooner but Mom Oyster brought me fabric and I got caught up in playing with it.
