Mr. Rosenblum's List: Or Friendly Guidance for the Aspiring Englishman
2 journalers for this copy...
Whimsical story of an Immigrant in the 1930s.
A Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany arrives in England just before the start of the Second World War. The first thing he gets on arrival is a cryptic pamphlet describing how to fit in in England. Mr. Rosenblum takes this manual to heart, and determines to follow the instructions to the letter, with predictably comic results.
The tale is a charming evocation of England in the glory days of the 1930's and we see the snobbery of the English exposed as Mr. Rosenblum tries to all sorts of ways to fit in - and become a true English Gentleman, ranging from ordering a suit to buying golf clubs (from Harrods - no one, apparently, buys golf clubs from Harrods!).
They end up in a little English village in a tumbledown cottage, trying to build a golf course (the only way he can get to join a club is to build his own!), and we meet a wide range of typical village inhabitants - farmers, labourers, drunkards and the lord of the manor.
Delightful!

Journal Entry 3 by AnonymousFinder at Worthing, West Sussex United Kingdom on Wednesday, August 4, 2010
I haven't got into the book yet as I only just found it on the bench at West Worthing Station! I was so astonished as I had never yet encountered a Book Crossing book on my travels so it was a delightful surprise. I joined Book Crossing some years ago in California and have stopped leaving books around as I have never had any feedback! Now I shall start again. How do I get some of the book bags? This is a better idea.
Thanks again for the great and exciting surprise. I'll pass it on with another entry when I have read it.
