1979 Bantam paperback of the 1978 true adventure in the Himalays, a best seller and winner of the National Book Award. This was on my list of the best travel books to read, when I bought it last year for 10 cents from the sale shelf of Dimond Library.
I can let this go after I read:
1961 The Cloud Forest [read 2012]
Edit April 5, 2021: This was a bit of a slog to read, I think, but I just skimmed it to end for time. It seems to be one of those difficult books that critics seem to love because they are not pleasant to just lightly read, page after page. I am a fan of reading for pleasure, not of working through pages of dense text to be impressed by or for critics who want to admire such effort. I currently have this ranked at #1579 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
