A wonderful mixture of past and future, woven around the Jewish community in Prague during the 16th-century holocaust, and the new world in the 21st century. Marge Piercy also wrote Woman on the Edge of Time, which is worth looking out for.

This is a thought-provoking novel about what it means to be human. Also about the kind of world which we could well be heading for. Even if there are no such violent disasters as have happened in the book, the potential horrors of modern technological advances on peoples' lives are graphically portrayed in this story which focuses on two parallel dramas. The characters are believable enough to keep you reading on.
