Though an extemely well written book, I cannot say I enjoyed it. The plot was incredibly disturbing, and I didn't warm to any of the characters. Even the victim didn't appeal to me.

I didn't like the ending, I would have liked to have see the creepy pervert have his comeuppance. I know some people would say he had, but I would like to have seen him prosecuted to to the full letter of the law, and then imprisoned, manipulated and abused the way he imprisoned, manipulated and abused Lolita.

And for those who refer to this as a love story. That is the most sickening and disturbing take of all. This is in no way whatsoever a love story. It is a story of downright abuse

And as for it being a comedy - not remotely funny

Thanks Gizmo!

Not sure when I'll get round to reading this one. I'm not sure it's one for the holidays!

Finally managed to read this last summer, only 4 years after receiving it from Gizmopuddy!

I can't say that i enjoyed this book either. I think I put off reading it for a long time because of its subject matter but I'm glad now that it is off the tbr pile!
It is definitely very well written and researched although a lot of the obscure references went a bit over my head. I didn't like the book well enough to spend time researching all the hidden symbols etc as I think Nabokov was writing more about other things other than just the main plot. I suspect that a second read would show more hidden depths but I'm afraid i didn't like it well enough for that to happen.

Will release at the bookcrossing meeting tonight at the Long Stone Pub Dublin.
