This was sent to me by a friend who said it was one of her favourite reads in 2009. I am taking it with me on holidays to Puerto Vallarta next week and if I finish it while I am there, I will release it in Mexico.
ETA - didn't read it so it's back on my TBR pile!
ETA again! March 23rd
I will finish this book tonight and if the last 40 pages are like the rest, it is a lovely story. Sad and funny and inspiring and just a feel good book. It is on several wishlists so I will offer it as a bookring. I'll put my final rating once I finish the book.
March 24th
This was a great book. The ending was perfect and I really enjoyed it!
From the Publisher
January 1946: writer Juliet Ashton receives a letter from a stranger, a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation, and of a society as extraordinary as its name.

This book arrived today...yay! After all the good reviews, I am really looking forward to reading it.
I'm about halfway through another book at the moment, but shouldn't be much longer and then this one.
Thanks Kimmi for sending it all the way over to New Zealand.

I really enjoyed this book....it certainly lived up to it's reviews!
It has a bit of everything, from tears to LOL moments, romance to the horror of the war.
Lovely characters.
I'll PM the next reader in line now and hope they enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks again Kimmi.

Received today. I'm sick at the moment and lying on the couch all day devouring books so I should have this finished quickly (if only the daytime naps didn't keep happening).
One of the best books I have read all year. This reminded me a lot of Nancy Mitford. I wish I could keep it so I can read it again. I guess I'll have to go & buy a copy.

I finished reading this a few days ago, but just now had the chance to make my JE.
It's a really strong and fantastic little book. Thanks a lot for sharing.
The uploaded journal picture shows a sunrise at Guernsey.
Shaffer's debut novel, written with her niece Barrow, is an original account of one writer's relationship with a member of a unique book club formed as an alibi to protect its members from arrest at the hands of the Nazis during WWII. With a small cast of gifted narrators including Paul Boehmer, Susan Duerdan, John Lee, Rosalyn Landor and the enjoyable Juliet Mills, this production is first-class from top to bottom. The narrators' British dialects, each quite regional and equally as different as they are ear-pleasing, serve the story well and allow Shaffer's words to leap from the page into the hearts and minds of her readers. The final result is an almost theatrical experience with a plethora of enthusiastic performances.

Picked the book up from school an hour ago :) The book had been waiting for me for two weeks. It got delivered a day after I had left for my vacation and I only came back yesterday nite. I can't wait to get started... will do so after I finish the book I'm currently reading.
Thank you Simson-Shilitoe! Especially for the chocolate and the postcard. I've yet to taste the choc but it sure looks good! Thank you so much!

Absolutely delightful! I loved it! All the characters were quirky in an endearing way and I loved the language used. I think it would make an interesting book to be used in school for a reading or literature class. The language was decent, there wasn't anything that was unsuitable for children, none that I could recall, at least. I think I'm going to buy my own copy and lend it out to my friends :)
Will PM the next in line.

A thousand apologies for still hanging on to it long after I had finished reading. Had meant to mail it off a month ago but things got in the way. Anyway, it's finally on its way to Canada.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
This book arrived today and I am really looking forward to reading it. Does it go anywhere after me?
Yes! It comes home to me as one of my favourites. My mum has been patiently waiting for it to return to her.
End of the ring - mailing back to Kimmi in Kelowna.
This was a nice, feel good, kind of book.
