"Caught" this today in the mail in a box-o-books from a forum RABCK of stale old BC books found. Thank you!
2001 Doubleday trade paperback.
Edit October 31, 2012: Wow, this one could have been a really great thriller. Except that it completely falls apart, as far as continuity with the beginning of the story, and the ending was predictable, just by process of elimination. Aside from the fact that the back cover gives away a HUGE plot development, repeated above here. But what about the beginning of the story??? No tie-in whatsoever, how utterly disappointing. Aside from that, the plot was fast-paced and enjoyable to read, a page-turner. But some big, big holes, in the end, which made no sense at all (why in the world did the perp break the window, and how did the perp get past the doorman, and why did the doorman not ever notice that the cop never came back down???) Maybe the editor screwed it up, by trying to tighten up the story or something.
