This book was an absolute triumph of a read. A modern gothic told along ancient lines. The author has a gift for story telling and manages to weave a set of beautiful vignettes into the main plot as it snakes along to its devestatingly lovely conclusion.
The characters are intense and damaged and the story itself takes to hell and back (literally) via burn trauma care, endless love through the ages and the oppressive nature of life both modern and ancient.
I revelled in every chapter of this book and would highly recommend it. It defies genres and blows the mind.

I left the book in the Barbican foyer outside the lovely Waterside Cafe right before Twisted Christmas which was a fantastically dark introduction to the festive season.

I found it when I was bored waiting for my friends in the Barbican - it was great! Just started it but it is already very absorbing.

I finished this book last night after a mammouth all day reading session. It's brilliant! Wonderful story telling. I wouldn't expect myself to enjoy a book that opens with graphic descriptions of what it is like to be severely burnt - but I was totally carried away by the plot and the detail.
