One of Burroughs first and most accessible novels. A very pulpy novel accounting for his days as a drug addict. His run-ins with the law and repeated attempts to give up the junk.

I can't wait to dig in to this book. I have one other ring book ahead of it but it is pretty short. I'll probably read them both next week since I am in my last week of class right now and trying to prepare for finals and term papers. I've just flipped through Junky and read a few passages and it seems like it will be much more accessible than Naked Lunch, which I have attempted to tackle more than a few times, all unsuccessfully. I'm tempted to start reading it right now, but a paper on Frankenstein awaits my attention.

Thanks davemurray for starting this ray!

Journal Entry 4 by JenKazoo from Shreveport, Louisiana USA on Thursday, May 22, 2008
I have about ten pages left to read of Junky tonight and will send it to Katrinat on Friday. I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if I could have just sat down and read it in a day or two but this has been an unusually busy month so I could only read a few pages at a time. It was hard for me to keep the characters straight since I was taking so many days in between picking it back up again.

It was a lot easier to get into than Naked Lunch and a pretty straightforward account. It has pumped me up to finally read Gonzo which has been sitting brand new on my bookshelf since December...I haven't been in a Burroughs or Hunter S. Thompson mood lately to read it but now I think its creeping up on me. I may even pick up Naked Lunch again soon.

Journal Entry 8 by Paws4Books from Deal, Kent United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I enjoyed this book but it's not one of my favourites! I can see how it made the list of 1001 books as the topic is rather original. I wasn't able to read it very quickly due to being busy but I never really got absorbed into it, losing track of time either.

All in all a better than average read. I'm still looking forward to reading other books by the same author that are also on the 1001 list.

Thank you so much for sharing this book.

Arrived whilst I was away - hence the delay in 'catching' it!
I seem to have a bit of a glut of rings/rays at the moment, but I will get to this one in turn.

Journal Entry 11 by cally-c from Alfreton, Derbyshire United Kingdom on Thursday, October 2, 2008
This was a good read, a bleak depiction of drugs as a way of life.
Can see where 'Trainspotting' has its roots now!

Thank-you to davemurray101 for sharing & ekranda for sending on.

I have PM'd afraberg for an address & this will be on its way as soon as poss.

Journal Entry 16 by Tubereader from Lenningen / Lenneng, Kanton Remich Luxembourg on Thursday, November 27, 2008
Just a quick note to let everyone know that I have started reading this book today. It is not very long, so hopefully I will finish it during the weekend.

DEC 2 UPDATE: this little book is more difficult to get into than I thought! Anyway, have already read 2/3 of it so PMing jellyfish67 for their address. Hope to finish the book tonight!

Journal Entry 17 by Tubereader from Lenningen / Lenneng, Kanton Remich Luxembourg on Thursday, December 4, 2008
It's taken me a bit to get into the book, but I have enjoyed it. I thought the books on the 1001 list were all non-fiction but this one seems to be an autobiography, isn't it?

What kept on shocking me while reading the book is the fact that all of this happens in the 40s, one would have thought that he is reading a more modern book given the language used and the story itself.

I am awaiting for jellyfish67's address, as soon as I have it, I will post the book.

Thanks davemurray101 for sharing!

The book's with me! Thanks for the posting, jellyfish67, and davemurray101 for sharing.

I'm leaving the country in six weeks, so I intend to have it read and sent on before then.

Journal Entry 22 by Miss-Owl on Saturday, July 4, 2009
It's probably just me, but this book just wasn't my cup of tea (and by that I don't mean pot!). I didn't really connect with the same flat tone all the way through, the assortment of characters that neither the protagonist, author or myself seemed to care about, the meandering plot (or lack thereof).

I can see why it made the official 1001 list, but it wouldn't make mine!

Passing on to cat207 when I get the address.

Wow. This book is linear. It has actual sentences. I'm amazed. I found it interesting because Burroughs interests me but it wasn't nearly as fun to read as Naked Lunch.

I did not see this already on the list for the 1001-library so I am going to donate it to them. Hopefully, it will be able to continue on its travels that way. Thanks, davemurray101.
