a good read, three characters tell us their version of events. Set in Malaysia at the onset of the 2nd world war. The writer achieved the whitbread first novel award in 2005 for this book. I took this book all the way to the UK recently as holiday reading, but ended up with so little time for reading, I bought it back to NZ. So it is a well travelled book!

Was a good read. Felt a little frustrated at the end that I didn't know which of the three opinions of Jimmy was the closest. He was probably a mixture of them all.
