Desirée är ett av de handikappade barn som på 50-talet placerades på institution och den enda som har överlevt enda in på 90-talet. Hon är från födseln förlamad och spastisk, hon kan inte tala och drabbas ofta av våldsamma epileptiska anfall, men hon har andra förmågor.
