I read "Half of a Yellow Sun" recently but have to say that I enjoyed this, Ms Adichie's first novel even more than Yellow Sun. I'll pm Glitterlover for her address so I can get the book on its way.

Sorry, I didn't journal when it arrived... holidays and so on.
I really loved this. I found the story compelling although bleak at times. I will cvertainly seek out her writing again. There was a simplicity in her writing style that allowed me to be in the room with her characters. I also felt the subtext of violence when it wasn't being actually described was well developed. Amazing.

Well obviously I couldn't wait : ) I ripped open my surprise RABCK - and exclaimed in delight when I saw what it was : ) I have wanted to read this for ages! I read Half of a yellow sun earlier in the year, and was impressed by her writing.

Thank you so much for sending me a lovely surprise. Would you believe this is my second surprise RABCK c/o RABCK.com in less than a fortnight. Bookcrossing people are lovely aren't they?

I read this in a little over a day - while spending the weekend at my sister and BIL's caravan in Herofordshire. I thought this was an excellent first novel, the tension builds slowly - and the suggested violence is more chilling for not being over described and dwelt upon. As well as providing an intresting chronicle to the trouble in Nigeria at the time of the coup, it is a novel about a young girl finding herself, her sexual awakening as she develops an almighty crush, and the way she begins to think about the secrets and violence that haunt her family.

I think overall I preferred Half of a yellow Sun - which is just a wonderful novel - but this was a great read and I am very glad I finally got around to reading it.
