It's impossible to read this book and not compare it to Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress; unfortunately, Mr. Muo suffers quite a bit by comparison. Where Balzac read like a beautifully crafted fable, Muo takes its inspiration from Don Quixote and Kafka, with farcical and sometimes grotesque results. An intriguing, but ultimately somewhat over the top read.
