This is just one of the collection of McSweeney's anthologies published, more or less quarterly--or may semi-annually. I got hooked on McSweeney's back around Issue #3 or so. Beside the fact that the usually boring publication data page is itself entertaining and that the book contains all manner of interesting marginalia, the actual contents are top notch fiction and essay contributed by a stable of young and maybe not so young upstarts with fresh and inventive style and perspective. Certain "hipper than thou" types see McSweeney's as an "in crowd" club for people who "get it", but don't let that dissuade you. Read and enjoy all of the McSweeney's and leave the irony to the literature. (Apologies for the excessive use of quote marks.)
