>>>Bill Bryson's first travel book, The Lost Continent, was unanimously acclained as one of the funniest books for years. In Neither Here nor There he brings his unique brand of humour to bear on Europe as he shoulders his backpack, keeps a tight hold on his wallet, and journeys from Hammerfest, the northernmost town on the continent, to Istanbul on the cust of Asia. Fluent in, oh, at least one language, he retraces his travels as a student twenty years before.
Whether braving the homicidal mororists of Paris, being robbed by gypsies in Florence, attampting not to order tripe and eyeballs in a German restaurant, window-shopping in the sex shops of the Reeperbahn or disputing his hotel bill in Comenhagan, Bryson takes in the sights, dissects the culture and illuminates each place and person with his hilariously caustic observations. He even goes to Liechtenstein. <<<

Not Bill Bryson's best book but amusing enough. It is a very fast skip through Europe, spending what appears to be about 24 hours in each country, although I suspect that it was really longer than that. The chapters are mostly devoted to a whole country or in some cases to a city. They are short and it would be a good book to read on a plane but without a lot of substance and would probably make you scramble onto the next plane home again.

Posting to gabbysmum today. Enjoy :)
Received this yesterday but had one ahead of it.Realised today I have read this book just not this particular copy lol
So sorry about the delay but the book is now on the way.
Thanks Gabbysmum: the book arrived safely today.
I have a few bookrings to go before I'll get to this, but as seem to be last on the list, perhaps that's ok. (I sent a Bryson book to sleepydumpling the other day. If she hasn't read this one, she may be interested in it, as she told me that she's interested in his writing.)
Thanks for sharing, pinkozcat.

As always, I enjoy Bill Bryson's style, and I enjoyed reading this book, although it was a bit neither here nor there, a little all over the place. Purposefully, I suppose.
I've just been dipping in and out, but I've realised that I've had it for a little too long. I'm sending it back to you, with thanks, pinkozcat. Is there anything you'd like from my AVL shelf to make up weight?

Goodness, I just re-read and tidied up my previous journal entry. I was certainly neither here nor there when I wrote that! Author's name wrong, and more typos than I care to think about . . .
Returned home this morning.
