Inside dust jacket:
Miss Stirling’s reputation has grown steadily since her first novel was published in 1949. In The boy in blue her sense of valid beauty and compassionate truth, and her unerring vision are more evident than ever before.

The heart of the story is the passion of a young musician for a dazzling woman of the world much older than himself. In counterpoint to it is his gentler affection for a girl of his own age and class. In the background is the terrible story of the massacre at St. Roch, France, of which the young musician is a survivor. It is one of the triumphs of the book that this grim reminder of the past is never over-stressed and harmonizes perfectly with the emotions of the present.

The Boy in Blue is full of perceptive and felicitous touches and the setting, moreover, is one that will have particular appeal to American readers – for the scene is set partly in Paris, partly in Naples and partly in Pompeii and Amalfi.

I "caught" this book as it lay awaiting capture on the top of a U.S. Postal drop off early one morning. It was a good sign to get a present that particular morning. I plan to read and release the book.
