I was camping on Mt. Joseph on Labor Day weekend. I took my dog down to Wallowa lake for a swim. Lying on a picnic table was this book, "Nine Stories" by J.D. Salinger along with a Pearl S. Buck colleciton of stories. I chose Salinger because I enjoy reading him more than Buck. The book is now in Vancouver, WA, where I live.
I like Salinger's stories in this book because they are simple and complex at the same time. The stories reflect a simple event that may or may not have a greater impact than just the simple event. I am left wondering how many levels to interpret each story. I can take it as for as I want and wonder how far the author intended to take it. Or I can just take each story on its face and enjoy it that way as well because each story is written in a way that allows you to do so if you are not in a mood to take the story farther. What I am trying to say is that each story can be enjoyed at varying levels of thought process/interpretation and still remain a whole story.
