This book is lyrically written, it takes you on an emotional ride and to me, it has a fairytale quality.
I would highly reccomend this book. My only clue that it was good was the interesting cover (yeah, I choose wine by the label too) but more importantyly Hulme won the Booker Prize and that is usually a good sign.

I always feel a rush of joy when I find books in my mailbox. What could be more joyful than two books, both from my wishlist, and both sent as RABCKs by lunabjp? I'm all twinkly now and will start this Booker Prize winner tonight. I can tell lunabjp is cool by her brief profile and especially the photo of her dog, which echos my own profile picture.
In my photo you see the book resting on my front walk, being visited by a red eft. I love red efts and other wiggly things.

Wow, I really liked this book, wow. For a few nights I stopped reading it because I'd become so emotionally attached to the characters and was filled with dread at what might happen next. I can't remember the last time I felt a book's characters were so real. I stayed up reading to the end of this til 3AM today.
I'm at a loss to offer much critique of this book. It felt just right to me, just natural. I liked the way Kerewin was written. She seemed very authentic to me, and a part of me identifies with her hermity side. There's something ineffable about this work. It's so finely wrought, it transcends its genre. Boy, it sure was harrowing to read in some spots--I think that's part of what allows it to make such a deep impression, and why the book seems to have a loyal fan club, worldwide. Thank you for sending it to me, lunabjp.

I sent this book home to Toronto with my stepmom, a retired high school English teacher, artist, and cool person. Hope she likes it. It'd be nice if she'd join bookcrossing, too!
