The Birth of Venus is this month's selection for one of my book clubs. I enjoyed reading it, but not as
much as I'd hoped. It's the story of a young woman of artistic bent living in Florence toward the tail end
of the Medici reign. Around this time, religious fundamentalism was sweeping through Florence and
destroying much of the cultural wealth of the city. There's no doubt this book will spark discussion in
today's political climate, making it a good book club choice.

I found the story entertaining, but not compelling to read. I kept thinking, "I hope I finish this one soon
so I can get back to Positively Fifth Street."

I think if you're a fan of historical fiction, you'd probably enjoy this novel. Otherwise, I'd give it a miss.

I'm passing it along to another member of our group so they can read it too.
