I think you either have to have read previous Ed McBain novels or be an ardent fan of the genre (I'm not) to love this book. It's a crime novel/police detective sort of thing. Despite having loved "Homicide: Life on the Streets" for it's entire run, this book didn't do anything for me. But for a fan of the author or the genre, I'm sure it will be a hit.
